Sage

My youth
My youth is yours
Trippin' on skies, sippin' waterfalls
My youth
My youth is yours
Run away now and forevermore
My youth
My youth is yours
The truth so loud you can't ignore
My youth, my youth, my youth
My youth is yours
Oh, oh, oh
My youth is yours
Oh, oh, oh
My youth is yours

I hummed along to the end of the song and walked upstairs back to my room.

The rain crashed against the window and thunder rumbled like an unfed stomach.

All the lights were on upstairs, except for the one in my room.

One of our maids must have cut it off while I was downstairs.

I opened the door to my room and closed it behind me.

I cut my light on and jumped back when I saw someone standing in front of me.

It was Laura.

"La-Laura? How d-did you know where I - I live?"

She was soaking wet and her hair was clumped together.

"It was on y-your schedule. . .when you showed me your class change last week"

"How did you get in? We have security everywhere"

"I climbed the fence and the wall"

"Why are you here?"

"My sister needs help a-and I didn't know who to go to"

"Help? You have a sister?"

"Her name is Rue. I don't talk about her much"

"How can you get her help?"

"I need fifteen thousand dollars"

My eyes widened. "Laura, I don't have 15k lying around"

"Okay"

"Do you want some clothes to change into?"

"Yeah, thanks"

I gave her a plain burgundy t-shirt and a black pair of jeans and then looked down at her worn out shoes.

She was a half size smaller than me.

I found a pair of black and white adidas that ended up running small and an adidas sweatshirt.

I grabbed my jacket and an umbrella.

"Show me how you got in"

"Why?" Laura asked, confused.

I smiled slightly at her. "We have to go get the money, don't we?"

She climbed out of my window and jumped to the tree beside my window with ease.

Laura made it look easy.

That wasn't the case with me.

I tried to jump like she did, but lost my footing and ended up hanging from the branch below.

"Holy spit" I said to myself as my umbrella fell to the muddy ground.

"Did you seriously just say spit"

"Shut up, Laura"

"Come on, Sage. It's only 15 feet"

"Only?! I'm not a professional tree climber" I whisper yelled, letting go of the branch I was holding on to for dear life.

As soon as I hit the ground, I felt the impact in my feet.

"Oh my goodness, I could have broken something, Laura" I bent down to get my umbrella and shook it off before turning around to see Laura already halfway across our spacious backyard.

"Laura!" I called and she didn't even slow down.

I jogged through the rain, not wanting to be left behind.

"Laura!" I panted as soon as I caught up with her. "Did you not hear me?"

"I did, I just chose to ignore you"

I heard something in her hand and saw a gun, making me stop in my tracks.

"Laura, what are you doing? H-how did you get that?"

She laughed. "I found it"

"Laura, this is serious! Are you going to hurt someone?"

"If I have to"

"I don't want to be involved in this if it means hurting someone and getting into trouble."

"Sage, don't be a baby. I won't use it unless I have to. I need to help my sister."

"I seriously don't know about this. I don't want to hurt anyone nor get hurt."

"You're not going to get hurt"

I walked out onto the street and only heard my footsteps.

"Laura?" I turned around.

She was going in the opposite direction.

I jogged to catch up with her again.

"What were you doing? You live in a gated community. Don't you think someone would get curious as to what the fuck you were doing?"

"Don't curse at me, okay? I don't do this on the regular"

"Don't take it personally, I'm just frustrated right now"
