Sage
I sat and drank my punch, listening to their conversation.
It made me wish that I had a relative or a friend that I could be close to.
"So how about you, Sage?"
"Huh?"
"How have you been?"
"Oh, uh. Fine" I shrugged.
"Lying ass" Covonte spoke.
"You better chill before her swat team shoots you" Keisha warned.
"If them rich folk don't trust you, they gone shoot you" Ace ate off a piece of chicken.
"I've missed this school so much. It's crazy" I said, looking around.
"You missed the smell too?"
I playfully rolled my eyes. "I might have"
"What you been up to?"
"Nothing" I shrugged. "Excuse me. I have to go to the bathroom"
I got up and walked off before security could follow me.
After I used the bathroom, and washed my hands, I walked back towards my seat.
My arm was grabbed, and I immediately thought of Laura.
But then I smelled him.
Bryson.
I let him take me wherever he wanted to.
Soon enough, we were in the library.
He pulled out a chair for me and afterwards sat down himself.
"Hey boo" He mumbled casually.
My face flushed red. "Hi" Bryson always made me feel uncomfortable in my own skin.
"Where you go? Why you stopped texting me?"
"Long story. I transferred back to my old school and had my number changed for security reasons"
"Cause of Laura?"
I raised my eyebrow. "Do you know if she's okay? I haven't seen her and-"
"Nah. She ain't been at school"
"Okay" I spoke quietly, deciding to drop the subject.
He stared directly at my face, making me shift in my seat.
We made eye contact, but it was quickly broken by myself.
"Am I making you uncomfortable?" He leaned closer to me.
"Stop" I mumbled shyly.
"Ego desiderari meum boo"
I missed my boo.
"I thought we agreed that you weren't going to call me that"
"That's what your friends think, so why not?"
"Because I'm not that to you"
"Who do you belong to?"
"No one"
"Your art? You still single?" He leaned even closer to me.
"No and yes" I scooted back.
He got up and moved so that he was right beside me.
"In that order?"
"Yes"
"Okay"
"Why?"
"Sage, I don't know if you could be any more blind, but I like you. I thought that you left because you found out that I like you."
"You what?" I asked, my cheeks went red immediately. "Bryson. I - I. . ."
"You don't like me because I'm poor and I've got nothing to give you. Right"
"What type of shit is that?" I asked, getting angry.
The way he had looked at me let me know that I had caught him by surprise.
"You of all people should know that I don't care about the materialistic things. As much as I've expressed that to you, as much as I told you that money. doesn't. matter. and you go around with that stupid idea floating around in your head. Who told you that, please? Because I know you're way to smart to just come up with that on your own"
My face flushed red yet again, realizing what I said. "I'm sorry, Bryson. I didn't mean to-"
"It was Eric, boo"
"Well Eric is stupid" I huffed and frowned.
"You getting upset in my honor, huh?" He asked, staring into my face.
"I'm not upset. Just frustrated and a little offended"
"I'm sorry" He apologized.
He sounded so sincere, it made me blush.
"It's okay"
"I sure do make you blush a lot"
"I know. My cheeks hurt" I admitted.
"I like it when I make you blush. It's cute"
"Uh, thanks. . . I guess"
The door busted open, and in came security.
"Miss Wyatt, your father was looking for you"
"Okay" I spoke and turned towards Bryson to say goodbye.
He was already gone.
I sighed, realizing that he does this frequently and that he probably won't stop.
I didn't even get the chance to say bye, and I didn't now when I was going to see him again.
My mind drifted off to only minutes before, happily reminiscing on the short time that we just had together.
Bryson told me that he liked me and that seemed to top everything else.
"Miss Wyatt?"
I snapped out of my thoughts and followed behind them.
I saw Bryson in the crowd and made my way towards him.
"Hey!" I called.
He looked confused at first, but then smiled slightly when he saw my face.
"I know what you can give me instead unnecessary and unwanted materialistic items"
"What's that?" He asked intrigued by my statement.
"Give me your soul" My voice softened.
He licked his lip.
"Boo, I think you already got it. You've got my soul"
