Sage

I blended the pastel colors with my index finger and realized the mess I was creating.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Where can I wash my hands?" I asked, attempting to stand.

Bryson wouldn't let me.

"You fine boo. I like watching you"

"I wouldn't feel okay until I washed my hands" I admitted.

He let me go and I walked towards the bathroom, careful not to touch anything.

I cut the water on with my elbows and ran the water over my hands.

I looked up to see Bryson looking at me through the mirror.

"I love how into your art you are. It's a beautiful thing to see"

"Thank you. What do you want to be? I never asked, and you never told me"

He shrugged. "Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit"

From nothing comes nothing.

"Is that how you feel?" I questioned, cutting off the water and drying my hands.

"It's what I know"

"Bryson, you can't limit yourself to Detroit. I believe that you can do great things"

"You have a great heart. Don't let anyone else ever take advantage of you"

I raised my eyebrow.

"Bryson, what are you talking about? You're confusing me"

"Sage, we aren't going to work. We come from-"

"Please stop talking" I ran my hand down his face. "You're still thinking about the money, aren't you?"

"How could I not?"

"Well, stop. Please? You're hurting my feelings"

"Sage, you've got it all planned out and I don't have my life together at -"

"I wouldn't expect anything less. You're seventeen, not thirty seven. You're still a boy"

He raised his eyebrow at me.

"A young man" I corrected. "You have plenty of time to decide"

He took a deep breath. "You're right, boo"

He stared down at me, and our eyes locked. Usually, I would turn away, but this time, I couldn't.

His face inched closer to mine and my breathing slowed.

"Go ahead and show your dad how you kissing broke boys in the hood"

Bryson sighed, and his breath brushed against my lips.

That's how close we were.

He began to back away from me, but stopped.

I'm glad that he did.

"Sage . . ." He looked down and my eyes followed his.

I was holding onto his arm. Preventing him from moving any farther.

"I'm not ashamed of you, baby"

"I don't want to get you in trouble, boo"

I almost let him go, but decided against it, standing my ground.

Bryson clenched his jaw at Eric as he laughed.

I put my hand on his chin and guided his face towards mine. "He doesn't matter, right?"

Bryson shook his head.

To do is to dare.

"Audere est Facere" I mumbled softly before leaning up to connect our lips.
