Chapter 3

I woke up to a sharp rapping on the door.

"This is officer Geordin," A scruff voice yelled from the porch. I quickly grabbed my pants and pulled them on before running to the door.

"Hello?" I combed through my hair with my fingers.

"You must be Juliet Tanner. I'm here to collect you and bring you to the Hemming 's home."

"Already?" I gasped. I figured it would take a least a few day to process the papers.

"You're only 16 with no parents, you got put in as soon as possible. You can't just stay here by yourself," he rolled his eyes, he was well into his forties but acted like he was my age. In fact, it actually annoyed the crap out of me.

"I haven't even packed yet," I tell him and he rolls his eyes.

"Well you better get on that." He drags out the sentence and I want to punch him in the nose right now and remind him that this is my home and even though he is an officer he isn't above the law.

I don't of course. I've learned to control myself a long time ago. "Yeah I better get on that." I force a smile.

I open the door wider for him to come in. He sits comfortably on the couch like he knows that I'm going to be a while. Little does he know that I don't have that much and I will go as fast as I can to prove his teenage girl stereotype wrong.

I run up stairs and grab two suitcases from the hall closet. I soon begin to throw my dresser contents into them and move over to my closet I take my total of 4 sundresses and fold them neatly on the top of the last suitcase. I grab my backpack and put my laptop and charger into it, thankful that school is over. I also add my  phone and changer along with my notebooks.

My room basically looked the same. Brad liked things impersonal and neat. But I knew what was missing - me.
