“Honey, you look amazing” Mom smiled as I stepped down the stairs. I couldn’t lie, she was right

Abby had curled my blonde hair and it fell down my back in soft waves. She had also done my makeup; although it felt thick it didn’t look bad. She had contoured, buffed, primed and literally slapped pretty onto my face. My eye shadow was a soft smoky eye and she had told me to wear silver heels to accentuate the silver detailing on the dress.

“Thanks mom” I grinned standing at the doorway.

“What are we, chopped liver?” Derek asked glaring at mom. Him and Rashad stood atop the stairs looking incredibly. Rashad wore a black fitted tux, a purple tie, and a white button down tucked into this pants. He looked amazing. Derek on the other hand, had opted for a black pair of trousers, black button down and ocean blue tie. As much as it hurt to say, Derek looked fantastic also

“You all look fantastic” Dad beamed

“Let’s get this show on the road, our dates are already waiting for us at the ball” Derek huffed pushing himself out the door

“NOT before we get photos” Mom yelled

After what felt like a hundred photos we were finally on the road. Mom, Dad and Abby were coming separately, while I, Rashad, and Derek rode together.

“You’re going with Trina, right?” I smiled over at Rashad. WE both sat in the backseat so my dress wouldn’t get bunched up

“Yeah” he mumbled

“And you, Delilah?” I said up to the front

“Yep” Derek muttered

“I’m not an idiot, you know”

“What are you talking about” Derek said looking at me in the rearview

“I know Lyla’s full name is Delilah. Why didn’t you just tell me she was your date?” I asked

“Because you’re so adamant on me being a ‘hoochie’” Derek sighed

“Well you are” Derek shook his head, “But that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to be happy. Lyla’s amazing”

“Thanks” He said quietly

Once we got to the hall, I practically flew out of the car

“You’re disgusting” I shrieked at Derek

“A man’s gotta let out what a man’s gotta let out” Derek smirked. He had literally assaulted us with the worst smell in the history of the universe

“I swear my heart stopped for a bit” Rashad murmured clawing his way out of the car, “Lyla is a lucky woman”

Derek rolled his eyes and strode into the hall.

The hall was decorated with dramatic whites and blacks, so as not to clash with anyone’s dresses, but it looked immaculate. There were dozens of tables, for the parents, lining the entire room.

“C’mon, we gotta go to the back” On the other side of the stage, which stood in the front of the room, was another room where all the debutante’s sat waiting for the ball to begin.

“Hey Ashley!” Lyla grinned once she saw me. She looked absolutely gorgeous in a short blue number that perfectly matched Derek’s tie, “You look like a princess”

“Look at you!” I smiled giving her a small hug

“Testing Testing Testing” I heard Mrs. Munks voice on the other side of the room and knew the ceremony was going to begin
