Lacey's POV:
The basketball season finished and we won, mom and dad left again and Nick was working. I sat alone in my bedroom listening to music and typing a paper. School is almost over then the summer will finally be here. Finally I finished the summary and shut my laptop. "Lacey?" I heard Jonah say. "Yeah?" I responded back, then my door opened. "Wanna work on free throws?" He asked. I nodded leaving the clothes I was in. Nothing really exciting has gone on in the past few months besides me lettering in basketball and getting. Letterman jacket. I followed Jonah out to the court and grabbed a ball. "So. How are you lace? You've seemed distant. Always sitting in your room listening to music." Jonah said standing near the net waiting for me to shoot, I placed my hands correctly, bent my knees, then released the ball making it hit the center of the backboard and go into the net. "I don't know. I've been thinking a lot." I said. He passed the ball to me and I repeated my motions as before. "About what?" "Personal things that I'm not ready to talk about yet." I replied staring at the ball in my hands before shooting another free throw. "Ok. Well I'm here if you want to talk" "I know. That's the fifth time you've said that."

The beautiful poetry of a basketball player
By: Lacey Jacobs

Just watching a basketball player dribble down the court with rhythm, speed, and agility is poetry. The feeling you get every single time you step onto that court where you know you might claim victory and success. That's the love you feel for it. And when your not playing it, your thinking it, and your heart aches to get back to it. Just dribbling twice can make such a difference in your mood. Because it's what you love. It's what you know. And it's what you do. People say it's just a sport. But inside your head, inside your mind. It's basically your career. Just keep working and eventually it will become that.

I printed my essay and stuffed it into my backpack putting on my warm up sweatshirt for basketball then running downstairs to meet Nick and Jonah. "Morning Lacey." Jonah said taking a huge bite from his cereal. "School will be over before you know it kiddos." Nick said, "Now let's go unless you want to be late." I swung my backpack over my shoulder and ran towards the car.

Finishing the last final of the day I turned it in and sat at my desk staring at the wall behind the teacher. I looked down at my watch and notices we have two more minutes of class. School is almost over than me and Jonah are being shipped off to Massachusetts for two months for a basketball camp with some NBA players like Steph Curry and Michael Jordan. I want to go to the camp but I'm going to be away from Sage and Sam. But the coach recommended us and they accepted so mom and dad said we had to go. But school doesn't end for 3 days. The bell finally rang meaning school was over for the day. I had a training session with Nick tonight. I honestly just wanted it to be basketball season again.

Dribble here, dribble there, cross over, shot fake, pass, then run. The play that made us win the last game ran through my mind. I dribbled the ball the the basket making an easy lay up. Then worked on handling. "Lacey?" I heard Jonah say. I looked up, "What?" I asked, "Are you ok?" He asked sitting down on the court. I shrugged, "I just wish my brother didn't give up on me but you know his loss." I said shooting the ball then watching it swish through the basket. "Have you packed yet?" He asked, I shook my head. "I just feel like Sage, Sam, and Matthew are going to forget about me. "Aw. Do you have a thing for Matthew." He said. I glared at him, "No. He's one of my friends. Now shut up before I chop off you fingers." I threatened. I shot the ball again, making it off the backboard. "Ok you two. Let's get started before it gets dark and you have to run laps in the dark." Nick said.

The day of leaving for the camp

"Ok. Do you have everything?" Nick said looking at my two suitcases and my basketball bag with both of my basketball shoes and my street basketball shoes. Jonah and I nodded. "Ok well let's get your luggage on the plane." He said and helped me pull it onto the conveyer-belt. "Ok. I'll see you guys in August. Don't forget to call." Nick said before hugging us good bye and watching us walk onto the planes entrance. Good bye California. Hello Massachusetts.
