Taper Tip One

Taper can be a wonderful thing. Or, it can be horrible. One girl  on my team just didn't taper because it didn't work for her. She actually got slower when she tapered. In this tip, I will explain how taper works.

Taper is when you cut back on training yardage. You aren't allowed to eat junk food (see taper tip 2). However, since you've been doing less work, this will mean you will have lots more energy. This doesn't mean you should go home and run a mile with all of this newfound energy. You should not do anything extra. If you really have that much extra energy, choose a song that you like that is no longer than 3.5 minutes. Then, just dance. Let loose, and Nike. You'll feel better afterwards, without having wasted too much energy.

The point of all of this stored energy is so that you can be storing it up, much like potential energy (6th grade science!) and then you can release it all at once, allowing you to swim very fast at finals, and hopefully, PR, or even win to potentially go to State.
