CHAPTER 30 ~ Brooke's POV
It's time. It's so long overdue now. I have to try.
"I need to talk to you," I say to him as I walk up to him at his locker.
"Why?" he asks rudely.
"Please," I plead but his face remains as is, with a scowl on his face.
"I'm not going anywhere with you. I wouldn't possibly ruin my reputation with that," he spits bitterly.
"Please, don't flatter yourself."
"I wouldn't get too ahead of yourself if I was you," he tells me and I just keep a calm expression on my face.
"Enough of this stupid bickering. Can't we just bury the hatchet?" I ask Mason with hope on my face. That hoped crushed in seconds.
"No, I don't want anything to do with you," he says with venom in his deep voice.
"I don't understand you, Mason. A week or so ago you were blackmailing me to date you but now you want nothing to do with me, some logic you have."
"I've had a realisation," he answers vaguely.
"Is that so?" I ask and he nods.
"Yes. I realised that you weren't worth my time which is why I never followed through on my threats."
"Well, thank you, I guess," I say, confused about this whole conversation.
This definitely didn't go how I'd planned. I mean I knew Mason would be stubborn but I didn't think he would flat out refuse. Sure, he treated me terribly and I'm not going to deny it but hating someone constantly is so tiring. I would've much rather buried the hatched and moved on with our lives but that wasn't what he wanted and I have to respect that. At least, I tried.
I walk from his locker and back to mine to get my books for class. I have geography with Zach so I'm happy about that.
Not long after I reach my locker, two arms snake around my waist and pull me back into someone chest. Zach.
"How are you, Beautiful?" he asks me as I turn around in his arms to face him.
"Better now," I say as I peck him on the lips.
He thinks for a minute before continuing the conversation, "Would I happen to have anything to do with that?"
"Hmm, maybe..." I say and draw out the last word.
"Well I'm glad then," he says and kisses my cheek then whispers, "Just so you know, you make my day better too."
"Please, I already knew that," I joke, making Zach laugh.
"Well you should, it's not like it's a secret."
I turn back to my locker and grab out all of my books and we walk to class together. We don't talk for the walk there but we don't need to fill the silence. It's peaceful, I love it.
...
"So, how have you been?" I ask Ella as we sit out on the oval.
"I've been better," she sighs and gives me a weak smile.
