That night all I was thinking about was her. She was so different from any other girl I've met, she didn't swoon at the sight of me, she didn't give in so easily when I tried to make a move, she wasn't girly in the least bit, and from the way she carried herself I could just tell she didn't really give a shit what others think and that was cool. My thoughts were cut short by a knock on my door.
"Hey Daniel." I looked up to find my mom in the doorway.
"Oh hey mom." I said sitting up from my lying position. "You need anything?" I asked.
"No I just wanted to know how everything is going." She inquired.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean how are things going at school?"
"Oh good." I answered, she moved closer to me and raised an eyebrow expectant of more.
"What?" I asked.
"Is that it, come on have you made any friends how are your classes and knowing you I wouldn't be surprised if you already had a girlfriend." She said.
"Mom!" I exclaimed annoyed.
"What its true."
"No mom I don't have a girlfriend, yes I have a friend and classes are going fine." I said impatiently.
"Ok, we'll try to get some sleep ok." She said reaching over and placing a hand on my arm then quickly pulling away.
"Ok,Goodnight mom." I said.
"Good night Danny boy." She said with a soft smile and with that she was gone.
Danny boy man she hasn't called me that in years. I remember when I was 10 or 11 and I hated her calling me that but as I got older I just found it amusing. And I don't really care about it anymore I like it actually, it reminds me of when not only school but life was so much easier. After my dad died things got really tough, oh ya I forgot to say my dad died when I was 13, and now I'm a senior and it's been almost five years without the old man. Man I miss him and with that thought I drifted off to sleep.
