I went to my locker, trying to calm my nerves. Tomorrow was our first game against another school and Coach had said that they were way better than us but we might have a chance because we were faster than them. I didn't know what would happen, I could only hope for the best and practice.
I opened my locker and pulled my jersey off, leaving my undershirt on. I pulled my stuff out and placed it on the bench. "I see that you've stayed as pretty as you were before, maybe you're even prettier now."
I gasped and turned to find Leo. Almost two weeks had passed since I first saw him and I forced myself to forget about him, knowing there was nothing I could do until the time came. I knew what he was here for and I was not going to let him accomplish his task without a fight from me.
He threw his obsidian knife into the air and caught it again. "Do you know why this is black? Why I chose obsidian?"
"Because it represents death?"
He paused and stared at me. "How'd you know?"
"It's pretty easy to guess."
Suddenly, he threw the knife at me and using my superspeed, I barely caught it. Then I threw it straight back at him, letting him dodge it by a millimeter. It impaled itself into the lockers behind him.
He yanked it out and bolted to me. I ducked as he tried to slice at me and I punched his stomach. He staggered back. "I see I underestimated you," he said.
I did a spinning kick and he took another step back, grabbing my ankle. Before he could force me to lose my balance, I fell into a split with his hand still on it, bringing him to the ground. I quickly sat on his stomach before he could move and I punched his face, causing his nose to bleed. He grunted and turned over, causing me to fall over.
My back hit the ground and before I could jump up, he pinned one of my wrists next to my head and pressed the knife to my neck. I froze, waiting for his next move. I knew he was going to kill me. My legs were pinned under him and my other hand was on his wrist that was holding the knife.
We both were breathing hard and he didn't finish the job just yet. He just looked down at me and I stared up at him. Then he sighed, his breath blowing on my face. He leaned down, our heads touching. "Why- why, in the world, did you have to get the Bite?" His voice was full of pain, shocking me. "Why did you have to make me kill you? Why?"
I felt something wet drop onto my cheek and then I realized that he was crying.
"Why couldn't you stay out of trouble? Why did they have to send me? I don't want to kill you, but I don't want them to kill me either."
I could tell that he was fighting himself, trying to figure out what he should do, what he shouldn't. He was having an inner war inside himself. He let go of my wrist and hit the ground with his fist instead. The knife against my neck began to shake, then he pulled himself off me, sitting on the floor a few feet away. I didn't understand why he didn't kill me, I was relieved of course, but why?
"They'll kill me," he said to himself as I sat up, his eyes flicking around the room as he thought of the potential horrors. "They'll torture me. I can't let them do that. I won't." He looked up at me, still debating. Then he squeezed his eyes shut, his grip around his knife tightened. Then he pulled it away from his body and then I realized what he was about to do.
"Leo, no!" I exclaimed, jumping to him. He thrust the knife into his stomach with a small cry. "Leo!" I came next to him and laid him onto the ground. My hands were shaking as I grabbed my jersey which was sitting on the bench. "This will hurt."
I pulled out the knife as fast as I could, making him cry out and his body jump. I pressed the jersey to this wound. "You're okay," I said breathlessly. "You're okay. You're going to be fine." I turned toward the door. "Help! Coach! Someone help!"
