Liam
I quietly walked across the mucky ground. I turned a corner, sniffing the air once in a while. I quickly hid behind a column as a group of guards came running. Then I continued. I spotted an opened door with a light shining from it. I heard voices and I quickly leaned against the wall, hoping I wasn't spotted.
"It's been fourteen years, Rowena," said a male voice. "For all we know Katherine could have killed her."
"You're giving up?!" Cried the female, who was most likely Rowena.
"No! I'm just saying we can't be optimistic all the time. We just need to be ready to face the worst."
Rowena sighed. "I don't think she did die. We sent Trevor to look for her, remember? He disappeared. Perhaps he did find her and Katherine killed him. I know that Katherine's husband died last year and Trevor disappeared on that same day. Perhaps he had killed her husband and Katherine killed him for revenge."
I couldn't figure out why but that story seemed a bit familiar. Then I realized that I still needed to find Laina and I quickly continued.
"It couldn't have been that coincidental," I heard the male say as I tip-toed away.
I heard footsteps which sounded heavy, telling me someone was struggling to walk. I quickly hid behind a wall as I noticed Laina's scent beginning to become stronger. I quickly jumped out and clasped my hand over her mouth before she screamed. I let her go when she realized who I was.
"Liam!" She whispered.
"Come on, let's go," I said. She immediately tripped and I caught her. "Are you okay?"
Then I realized she was holding onto her arm. I quickly remembered how she was shot before she was captured. "Can you still walk?"
She nodded.
"Ria?" Said the female voice from the room, Rowena. I turned around to find a woman that looked a bit similar to Laina. The same eye shape and the same nose, then I realized something that I couldn't believe.
"No," I said, in denial. That wasn't possible. It couldn't be.
"Ria, is it really you?" She said, taking a step to us.
Laina was swaying, the wound continued to bleed. Then she collapsed into my arms. I quickly picked her up as Rowena walked over and I backed away.
"Give her to me," she ordered, pulling a gun out.
"No," I said.
"Do it. I've been separated from my daughter long enough. I'll do anything for her to come back to me."
I shook my head as she cocked her gun. Suddenly, Tessa jumped up from behind and knocked her out with a metal staff. "Go!" She yelled and we both ran out as she threw the staff aside.
We jumped into my car with Ronnie at the wheel. We drove away. "We need to get that bullet out of her," I said, brushing hair away from Laina's sweaty face. "It's killing her."
"I'll call my aunt," Ronnie said.
"Tía Rosa?" Tessa asked, confused.
"No. I had a caretaker. But I consider her my aunt," Ronnie answered. "She used to be a nurse. Now she runs Ryena's Gold. She can help."
"Oh," Tessa said.
We drove into town, speeding past cars. We reached the shop and we all rushed out. We ran in and Tessa began pulling the curtains together as Ronnie cleared a table. "Tía Maria!" He called as I set Laina in the table.
