I went to my locker, thankful that these past few days were peaceful ones. I was worried that every day there would be danger after the cyclops incident but I was wrong. I was worried for nothing.
I knew it was dumb to keep hoping that everyday would be serene, so I kept my guard up. Liam and I had told Tessa and Ronnie about what had happened and warned them. They weren't even scared, in fact, they had teased us for two days straight about what 'really' happened instead of me bandaging up Liam's cut- even though nothing really happened.
Ronnie and Tessa walked to me, both smiling. "Hey," I greeted.
"Any plans today?" Ronnie said casually, leaning against the wall.
"No, I kind of want to stay at home, take a break," I said, pulling my books out and slamming my locker.
"Well, it's Saturday tomorrow," Tessa said. "All four of us can go somewhere. Bowling, maybe."
"Sure, I have nothing better to do," I said with a smile. "Where?"
"I'll send you the location. I have science, you?"
"Chinese," I answered. "That class is on the other side of the school, I better get a head start. You guys can stay here and talk."
"Alright, hasta luego," Ronnie said with a wave. "Oh wait, you're going to Chinese, zai jian!"
I laughed at his attempt as I walked away. "Wo men zai jian."
I barely got a few feet away when three girls came rushing to me. "You're Laina, correct?" Said one girl with blonde hair, linking her arm into mine. "I'm Jenna- Jack's sister."
"Uh, hi," I said, surprised at her sudden introduction.
"I heard so many great things about you!" She said with a beaming smile.
"You did? From Jack?"
"From everyone!" Cried the redhead next to her, her brown eyebrows telling me that her hair was dyed.
"We would hate it if you couldn't make it to the party tomorrow," Jenna said with a pout.
"I kind of did have plans with my friends."
"Oh honey, we're your friends," said the third girl.
"Besides, they can come too!" Jenna said.
"Um." Honestly, I did not want to go to a party. The music was too loud and I hated the smell of alcohol. I decided to lie. "We kind of did pay for everything and stuff."
I managed to slip out of their grasp and tried to head over to Ronnie and Tessa, seeking refuge. They both had been watching our interaction and they gave me a raised eyebrow. However, my attempted escape was a failure, they quickly pulled me back.
"Sweetheart," Jenna said. "We don't bite. It'll be fun! Just come. Invite your friends too!"
"I'll think about it." They finally let me go and I went to my two friends. "They want me to go to this party. I don't really want to. They said you guys can come to."
"Really?" Tessa cried. "Let's go to the party! It'll be fun!"
"What? Why can't we go bowling instead?"
"Oh please, this is Jenna who invited you! She and Jake throw the best parties in the whole school. If you're invited, it's mandatory to go! You have to come. Don't worry, you'll be fine. I'll be with you the whole time! Besides if some guys try to mess with us, we got Liam and Ronnie."
"It's okay. I might be tired tomorrow anyway, so it's fine."
Tessa glared at me. "I'm not asking, Laina. You're going to come whether you like it or not."
...
"Ow," I snapped as she ripped the comb through my hair. "That hurt."
"Oops," was all she said. She didn't do much to my hair except comb through the tangled. She went to her closet and threw a black dress to me. "Wear that."
I took it to the bathroom and changed. It didn't have any patterns or accessories, it just was a dress that was tight against your body. It would show off a girl's curves, but some girls didn't have any curves- like me. I was like a pencil. Skinny and unfilled. I wasn't starving myself or anything, I was just built that way. I actually did eat a lot. I wasn't insecure or anything, I just thought I had a body of a boy, really.
My shoulders were pretty wide and I had no chest and no butt- honestly I see some boys who had a bigger chest and butt than I did. But the real problem were my legs. I had no calves. Absolutely none. I couldn't even water ski because my legs are so skinny.
Maybe I was insecure. I never really gave my body thought until certain moments when my body shape prohibited me from certain things.
I walked out, rubbing my arms from the cold since the dress was strapless and it showed off my collarbone. "You look great!" Tessa said spinning me around. She herself had put on a simple blue dress that had spaghetti straps.
"Can you give me something less...tight? And something with straps? Something longer too?" I asked as politely as possible.
"Why? It looks perfect! It shows off your body perfectly!"
"I have nothing to show off, Tessa."
"Oh please! I won't give you another dress, so you may go to the party naked, if you would like. But I can give you a cardigan." She handed me a grey cardigan which sleeves reached my elbows. I slipped it on, embracing the warmth. "You can wear my flats, you're a size 8 right?"
"Yeah. Thanks." I pulled them on, thankful that she didn't force me to wear high heels. I could barely stand in those feet-killers.
"Are you ready? Let's go!"
Sorry for the boring chapter, the next one might be a bit more interesting. Vote! Comment thoughts!
