I closed my eyes as I heard the jingling of the keys open the cell door. I opened my eyes as the grabbed me. Today was the day where I get brainwashed and I wasn't letting them wash my brain so easily.

I kicked the two men holding me both in the ribs and landed in a squat as they fell. I ran out the cell door with Tessa right behind me. I knocked out one guard and pushed another into the cell.

Then I grabbed the fallen keys and locked them in. "Laina, watch out!" I heard Tessa yell. I turned to see a fist. It was too fast to dodge or block, so it hit me. I fell to the ground with the floor spinning. My vision was blurred and I felt like passing out, but I pulled myself up.

Tessa punched the man, but more guards came, pinning her down. "GO!" She yelled, fighting herself free and running with me.

We ran through the hallway. "Do you know the way out?" I asked, stumbling a little.

"Just follow the smell of grass and trees, I know there are some outside," Tessa said, sprinting. We dodged other guards and knocked down a few.

"There!" I saw pointing to a door with the word 'EXIT' on top. I reached it and pushed it opened, the sunlight warming my face. But the luxury was short-lived as I was suddenly yanked back.

"NO!" I screamed, I was so close. So damn close. I was thrown to ground roughly next to Tessa.

Rowena came through the crowd of guards, with a gun in her hand. She pointed it at Tessa, her eyes blazing with anger. "If you do not cooperate, she will die."

Tessa looked at me with huge eyes, neither of us knew what to do. Two guards grabbed me and dragged me to a room, inside was a chair. The chair was like a dentist's chair but way more frightening and it had more tools around it that looked like they were not meant for teeth. I saw a light bulb dance over me as gloved hands began to grab tools.

"No..." I mumbled as I felt them numb my head with a drug. What the hell are they going to do? Cut my head open? I tried fighting against the cuffs but they were most likely specially made for the Bitten, prohibiting me from escape.

A razor whirred to life next to me and I could hear it come closer. Were they seriously going to cut my head open? Fear engulfed me like a wave and I started screaming for them to stop. I could feel tears form as my heart thumped more rapidly.

The razor came closer, I closed my eyes for the impact, leaning as far back as possible. But I didn't feel it cut me. Instead, I heard screaming and yelling. They razor flew away as I opened my eyes, I could hear screaming and growling.

Then Liam's face popped over me. "Liam!" I said. He wiped the tears from my face.

"It's okay, you're okay. I'm going to get you out of here, okay?"

I nodded as tears of relief streamed down my face.

"Hey, hey, don't cry. You're safe," He said, freeing me swiftly. "You remember me, right?"

"Of course I do!" I said, holding onto his jacket. "I will never forget you!"

"That's good," he said, kissing me.

"Hey, lovebirds!" Ronnie called, breaking us apart. "We need to go!" We all quickly followed him as we ran out.

Guards came after us like swarms of bees. We fought our way through but we weren't getting anywhere and soon we were surrounded. Liam held onto my waist tightly as if I would slip through his grasp.

Rowena stepped out, furious. "Why do you keep rebelling? Don't you know it's for your own good?!"

"My own good!" I cried, stepping out of Liam's arms, but he held onto my hand. "You want me to forget everything! Bad and good! You want me to forget people that I love!"

"We are your parents!" Rowena yelled back. "You are standing here because of us! We are doing this because we love you!"

"If you love me, you would've let me be happy and stay with the life that I have now!"

"Don't I deserve a bit of happiness? I've been suffering every day, why can't I have a speck of happiness?"

"What is going on?" Came a loud, male voice. James. The crowd parted for him like the Red Sea.

"James, our daughter doesn't want to come back to us."

He looked straight at me. "Laina. Your adopted father died, didn't he?"

I didn't answer and I just glared at him.

"You've always wanted him back, what if you could? I could take his place and I could be even better than him-"

"Don't you dare compare yourself to him!" I hissed. "He was the best father a daughter could ever ask for! I could have gotten a second father figure! But you guys killed him! You guys killed Mr. Luke! And I will never join you because of that! I will never be happy with murderers like you!"

"We did not kill him!" Rowena snapped.

"Yeah, you tried to kill me, but he saved me! He wasn't even related to me and he already acted like a better father than you! If you guys really want to be good parents, then you should put your child's happiness first, not your own. And my happiness is with the life I have now!"

They stayed silent. Then Rowena spoke up, "Take her away."

Liam pulled me back quickly as the guards tried to grab me.

Suddenly, I spotted a window. How much more dumb could I get? Why couldn't realize that sooner? I grabbed a pipe sitting on the ground and threw it as hard as I could. It smashed through the glass and I quickly waved my friends out. "Let's go!" I said and I jumped out with the three of them behind me.

We ran a few feet away when someone grabbed me. I turned, about to punch them when I realized who it was.

"MOM?!" I yelled as I heard Tessa gasp. There my mother was holding two guns strapped to her back and dressed in all black with her hair tied up. In her hand was a trigger.
