I was now at the front of Drew Martins Office otherwise known as the Goodman. I knocked and entered the room. The office was quite tidy. Lots of papers every ware, but it was all in a neat fashion. Drew was sitting at his computer, and didn't even bother to look at me . He wore another flamboyant shirt with slacks again looking more like a 70s pop star than gym manager.
"Hi Drew, I am Jay we met yesterday" I said.
Drew's eyes moved over to me and scanned me up and down. He didn't look as happy as he did yesterday. In fact there was something very odd about him today.
"Hi, what can I do for you?" It was said with a grunt and like I was taking up important time.
"Well I heard you are hiring new gym instructors and would like to apply"
"You have all your qualifications?"
"Yes all done" I quickly replied. Drew grabbed a card from his desk and handed it to me.
"Email me" he then went back to the computer to continue his work.
He gave me nothing, more like I was nothing to him.
"Um I am a lifeguard so would I have a better chance than most?" I said.
"Lifeguarding is very different than gym instructing and personal training. It all depends on how competent you are as an instructor" Drew said as his eyes stayed on the computer screen while he folded his arms.
He seemed to be trying to solve a difficult problem. I needed to break the ice here, ask him a question not related to the interview.
"So Drew where did you previously work?" I said. It was all I had at that moment. Drew took his eyes from the screen, looking at me firmly.
"My CV is over nine pages, email me and I'll send it to you"
It was said in a very arrogant way that made gave him the image he was looking down on me. While I was taken off guard I replied.
"Ok well maybe you can tell me next time"
"Like I said, Email me" The Goodman said as his eyes went back to the computer screen and he folded his arms again.
I then said bye to which he only grunted. I left feeling empty. He gave me absolutely nothing. Something then crossed my mind. He told Lara every job he ever had. Yet to me, he didn't even give me the time of day. It didn't look good at this stage. It didn't really bother me that much I mean I was expecting my university results soon. This was all temporary.
Not going to lie I did feel like crap after that however today was T.G High Friday which always brought a smile to my face.
