Nicole Van Oscar was the name that was stuck in my head. Like a song that you just kept on repeating. Her name wouldn't leave my mind. You could say it was the start of some twisted obsession .
Anyway, it was time to pay the Goodman a visit.
I went around to the management offices and knocked on the door. Jamie Owen opened the door with a smile.
"Levi what can I help you with" He said as he shook my hand.
"Here to see the Goodman" I said as I winked at him and walked over to the Goodman's office.
Jamie smiled back and looked impressed with my motivation. He went back to his office as I knocked on the Goodman's door. It was bigger than his other office. Much nicer and tidy. There was so much room in this office that fifty people could be seated in it and there would still be plenty of room.
"Hi Drew, its Jay do you have some time" I said as The Goodman was busy on the computer. He didn't take his eyes off the screen.
"yeah come in" he said as he sounded unhappy to see me again.
"Drew I just want to say that I am really impressed by you. I mean I saw all the jobs that you did and you have seriously left an impression on me" I said.
You see I did my homework. Now days we have LinkedIn. Every person in business is listed on that site. It wasn't long before I looked up Drew Martin and found all his previous jobs listed on his page. It was quite impressive.
He had a long resume that listed nine jobs in the field of sport science manager. He had recently come back from Thailand where he owned a gym facility. The strangest thing I found was that he didn't stay in any organisation longer than two years.
The Goodman moved his eyes from the computer and looked at me. He looked happy and for the first time I felt he had acknowledged my existence.
"Well mate you have just made my day" It was said in a shocked voice. The Goodman had stopped what he was doing and looked at me.
"I feel it's important to let you know that. From what I know it seems your staff really appreciate you. You really have a keen eye for the people you want." I said as I saw Drew listening to everything I said. "So Drew I want to let you know after this weekend I want to do some volunteer hours up in the gym. I want to work for free to show you, what I can do" It was a trump card I had been saving.
It was a sure way for me to get this job. Like Nicole Said I needed to impress him. The Goodman looked even more surprised. I know he didn't see that one coming. Ill prove to him I am different.
"Ah yeah sure, I'll let you start on Monday. You can work with Nicole. She is my best." The Goodman said as I nearly fell off my chair.
What luck I thought. A small smile crept up over my face. This was incredible. I not only seemed to get on Drew Martins good side but at that same time I'll be spending a lot of time with Nicole Van Oscar. I had to play this cool. I controlled myself and contained my excitement.
"That sounds good. I'll start on Monday. What time?" I asked
"Start at 2PM" The Goodman Said as he went back to his computer screen. I was about to leave the room only to hear his voice again
"Levi, thanks you really did make my day" The Goodman said as his eyes did not move from the computer screen.
I left with a smile. I had finally left a good image on Drew Martin the Goodman. The strangest thing about today was. Even though I may graduate soon. I didn't care as much about that as I now wanted to work in the gym.
Maybe it was to impress Nicole Van Oscar or maybe it was something I always wanted to do. It's funny how this job as a lifeguard has side tracked me into becoming a gym instructor.
Alas enough rambling. It was not Friday yet but that didn't hold me back from going to Goldfish's garage to celebrate.
