The Girl With Wings

July 4th

Joanie's PoV 

"SAM!" I yelled, hoping he hear me from his bedroom upstairs. "YES JOANIE!" He yelled back. "I NEED YOU TO COME DOWN HERE AND HELP WITH THE CUPCAKES!"  I heard the stomping of feet and a very happy Sam who bounded into the kitchen. 

"What can I do to help M'lady?" I smiled as he fake bowed and then offered his hand. " need you to get out the Icing, then food coloring, and mix them together." He bowed again and walked over, turning it on. Soon Sam and I were dancing around the kitchen listening to Footloose by Kenny Loggins. 

 I've been working so hard

I'm punching my card
Eight hours for what?

Sam danced around as he colored the icing. While he was doing that he that I got the vanilla cupcakes out of the oven. I set them down on the counter and let them cool. then I go check on my roast chicken I had in the second oven in our kitchen.  I text Lily and Bucky and everyone on the Avengers team, to make sure they were coming to the 4th of July party.

Ding! Ding! Ding! I looked down at my phone, "Sam write this down, Lily, Bucky and Emma are coming and so are Natasha and Bruce are coming and they are bringing appetizers. Clint and his family are going to be here, so make sure that we have a place for Laura to lay the baby down. And  Steve is coming and  he his bringing his girlfriend too." Sam seemed taken aback when I mentioned Steve having a girlfriend.

"Well I guess he forgot to tell you with all of the things going on. Tony is coming too, he is also bringing fireworks and he is bringing some food to, though I don't know what." I finish, giving a look at Sam and continue working around the kitchen. "Hey Sam-" Sam cuts me off with a quick kiss to the lips. "You are a wonderful, beautiful,  amazing woman. I am the luckiest man alive." He leans in for another kiss but I stop him," You are, but that doesn't mean you get out of chores, I need you to go and get the decorations and put them up around the house as I finish up here." Samhangs his head then looks back up at me with puppy dog eyes. Then he shuffles out the kitchen.

I turn around and start icing the cupcakes.  I start with the white icing and work my way to the other colors. they ended out looking pretty well so I put them in the cooled down oven. I hear my alarm for the roast chicken and then I quickly pull it out.

"Hey Lily-Bear, I am just goin-" The doorbell rang, making me rush to the door, I had been waiting for Steve and His girlfriend to show up, they were the last ones. Lily and her family got here a few hours ago.

I opened the door, there stood Steve and I presumed his girlfriend.She had Mocha brown hair and bright green eyes. The frown on her face was a little out of place next to Steve's beaming Blonde and blue eye face. She only came up to Steve's chin height wise, She stood a foot away from Steve at least. She wore a short dress with a floral pattern and plain black flats.  Her hair was kept down in a flowed out matter.

"Joanie, this is my girlfriend, Crystal. Crystal, this is my friend and colleague Joanie Houstan, or as the public knows her as Night-Bird." I held out my hand, expecting her to shake it. She looked at me, and nodded slightly. I took this as a sign of acknowledge and I let them in.

As I walked back to the living room Tony pulled me aside, "Hey Joanie, where are the beers, and follow up question, where are we going to light off fireworks?" I rolled my eyes "Beers are in the kitchen, and we are setting off the fireworks in the backyard. Sam will show you." With that I walked into the living room. 

  Everybody cut, everybody cut footloose

 "Hey Babe, can we start getting ready for the fireworks! Tony bought some really good ones, Steve, well not so much!" I laughed at Sam. "Yeah set up! I meet you back there when I round up the food trays!" I walked up to Lily, Steve, and Crystal. "Hey guys could you help me take the food trays out. I going to need some help." Before they could answer Emma came running up to Steve. "UNCLE STEVE!" she yelled clinging to his pants leg. In one swift motion Steve picked up Emma. I noticed that Crystal looked at Emma with disgust, hatred, and, sadness? What could she be thinking and what happened to make her hate poor, sweet, Emma"Whats up pumpkin?" Steve asked "Is the pretty lady going to be my other Auntie?" Crystal started choking on her beer, and Lily on her water. Steve reddened and looked at Crystal. "Well I am hoping that she will." said Steve, which made Crystal's eyes bug out of her head as she looked at Steve. Steve blushed even harder as he put Emma down. Emma went over to Crystal and hugged her leg. "Yeah I- uh I am going to go help you with those trays Joanie." Lily said, as she looked at Crystal trying to Shake off Emma. We made our way to the Kitchen and then quickly headed to the backyard. Where the fireworks started to go off.

Strobes of red, white, and blue lit up the sky. There were several joke making fun of Steve. Emma looked up in awe and even Crystal cracked a few smiles at the beautiful sight we were watching. Who knew that things would turn out o.k in the end.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!! sorry this pretty late at night. I was out late with my almost entire street looking at the firework display. Not even our own fireworks, maybe tomorrow I will upload a video of the fireworks display.  Speaking of celebration...We have reached over 400 reads...wow guys that's a lot. And it wouldn't be possible without you guys. As usual...
