My hair was such a bother. It was long and it gets tangled so quickly. I'll have to have it cut, but I couldn't bring myself to bug my parents for it.
Sighing I just brushed it and left if down, I hated it up. If it was up it would show my face. My mom used to tell me that I had a lovely face and should show it more, but I don't feel very lovely. Especially when my brown hair was the color of mud.
I glanced over at my book sitting on top of the toilet, wanting to crack it open, but I resisted. I knew my obsession with my books was getting unhealthy, but I needed some comfort and they were it.
I ran out of the door saying a quiet goodbye to my dad and mom. I don't like eating breakfast, or anything for that matter. I ate last night, so I wasn't too hungry. I just hated feeling like a burden by making my parents spend their money on food for me. Silly, I know, I guess I can't help it.
At least I enjoyed walking, that meant I could read. I still payed attention to where I was going, but at least I could get in some reading time.
Before I arrive at school I put my book in my bag, people would probably find me weird if they saw me reading as I walked on to the school grounds. I kept my head down and walked quickly into the school. When I had finally reached the library I let a breath that I had been holding in. I hated breathing around people. I breathed quiet loudly, I didn't know why, but I knew it bugged people so I tried to breath less. Or more quietly.
Finally in the comfort of the library, I cracked open my book again. I was instantly plunged deep into the story.
When the bell rang I ran to class, so I could get there a bit early. The bell rang at a good part in the book, I had to see what happened. I could read a little before class if I got there early. But as I was walking I saw Silvia. She was laughing and talking to her boyfriend, Cody. With her beautiful blue eyes and brown hair, that faded to blonde, she seemed nice, but I knew different. I tried to walk past without them seeing me, but to no avail.
"Ever! Where do you think you're going?" I just stayed quiet. Eventually she'd lay off me.
"Come on you mouse. Say something. Are you mute or something? Retarded?" She just laughed at her dumb comment. Her boyfriend looped his arm around her waist and landed a kiss on her cheek.
"Come on babe, we only have a few minutes." She giggles and I took that as my cue to leave.
Through out the day I imagined a good comeback that I could have said to make her, I don't know, dumb founded? But I was weak and useless. My only defense was my silence.
That knowledge killed me.
I was reading in class when I heard Mrs. Bells voice call my name.
"Ever, put the book down and pay attention." Yes, I was that kid. The one who got told to put the book away instead of a phone.
I sheepishly put the book away as some of the kids glared at me, some laughed a bit. I kept my head down in order to not see them. I guess long hair was a blessing, it shielded me from everyone.
I fingered my two dollars I had in my pocket. My stomach was growling. I hated standing in line awkwardly. I normally skip lunch, but I had two dollars so I might as well eat.
After I got some chicken nuggets I looked for a spot to eat. The lunch room was full. I looked around desperately for a lone place to eat, but couldn't spot one.
Then finally, I saw a lone spot in the corner. Victory. I sat down and began to eat some of the fruit. Out of the corner of my eye I saw them. Silvia and her group, staring at me. I quickened my pace, hands shaking. I hoped they wouldn't throw my food to the ground. Again.
