I left the village quickly. It took me almost half an hour to shake off the angry civilians. Who knew they could get so mad they'd chase me through the forest for a few miles. I brushed off my new outfit and set off to find Greer.
Where are you? I called with my mind.
Somewhere in the woods.
You're so very helpful. I heard him chuckle through our link. If he were here, I would have clobbered him.
I got a picture in my head of where they were. It was towards the mountain and just a little west. I could find that. I think.
Over an hour later I finally found them. Bain was sitting on a rock far way from Greer. She looked quite mad. I raised an eyebrow in Greers direction. He just huffed out an annoyed breath and scooted farther away.
"Well don't go jumping up out of excitement now." I said sarcastically.
"What happened?" No one answered.
"Greer? What did you do?" His head snapped in my direction.
"I didn't do anything. Try asking the squirmy priss over there." Alright. So he was mad.
"It's not my fault. You picked up a lady without permission." Bain answered sourly.
"They were about to riot against you. I saved your pretty butt. And what thanks do I get? Freezer burn!" He yelled angrily in Bains direction.
"So you, froze him?" I started laughing. I couldn't help it.
"He dropped me."
"You froze me." Greer rebutdtaled. I sighed at their bickering.
"Sorry Bain. I told him to get you out if there. Those villagers weren't having any. Also he's the one who can fly." Her face fell from annoyed to just flat. At least she wasn't upset anymore.
"And Greer. Be a gentleman." He looked at me like I had just punched him for no reason at all.
"Alright. So why were you there in the first place?" I sat on the floor next to Bains' rock. Greer was still gawking at me like a guppy.
"Greer close you mouth, you're not a codfish."
"I'll show you a codfish." He mumbled angrily under his breath. I smirked a bit at his response and turned my attention back to Bain.
"I was trying to get them to see that what the King is doing is wrong. This war, it's just to get power. And this war is consuming a lot of money and natural goods that the villagers are suffering for." A deep sadness was in this hazel eyes of hers.
"He tells them it's because the ogres have sided with the Kurts and are ravaging some of the towns in his domain, but that's not it. He's just trying to get people to support him. He lied."
"Ogres?! Really? Like real live green monsters?" I squealed like a five year old meeting a princess for the first time. She looked at me with a 'are you serious?' look.
"I'd hardly call them green. They're kind of pinkish and even more pale than green. They also smell horrible." She made a face as she remembered them.
"Sorry to interrupt. Go on."
"He's been trying for years to irradiate magic users. But ever since this war had began he's been searching for them far and wide. Greedily taking any magic user he can find. He's such a hypocrite." She clenched her hands into a tight fist. Her knuckles were turning white. Her face was scrunched with anger.
