Wolfpaw cowered against the silvermesh as the Twoleg's pet and pampered Charlie, Flip, Cocoa, Sunshine and Thomas. Angelkit had stayed by her side the whole time, never moving.
"Angel, c'mon, the housefolk won't adopt you if you don't leave that forest cats side." Cocoa complained.
Angelkit whipped her head around. "It's Angelkit." She hissed. "And this forest cat is my friend. So leave her alone." Cocoa shrugged and nuzzled the Twolegs leg. Wolfpaw shook her head, disgusted. Who could imagine touching a Twoelg. Twoleg kit noticed Wolfpaw staring and started padding over.
Oh no!
"The poor thing probably wants to play." It said sweetly. It stooped down in front of thd two cats and wrinkled its nose at Wolfpaws filthy pelt. She hadn't washed in a few days. "Ooh she's filthy. If I were to adopt you, you'd get a nice and long, bubble bath." She said affectionately. Wolfpaw pressed harder, wishing she could just fuze through the web and escape.
"Carly, I think I know which kitten I want." The Twoleg said, standing back up. "I would like to take that one back home with me." A pink paw pad was pointing at Wolfpaw.
"Wolfpaw . . ." Angelkit breathed, her voice barely a whisper.
"Alright, that'll be three hundred." Carly-Twoleg went on. The other Twoleg smiled and handed her a pile of weird looking green leaves.
"Three hundred." It purred. It then started walking towards the silvermesh and Wolfpaw pressed closer to Angelkit.
"Oh Angelkit." She moaned. "It's coming for me!"
"How do you know?" She asked. "How do you know these things?"
I'll never see her again. She deserves to know.
"Alright Angelkit," Wolfpaw said seriously, staring Angelkit in the eyes. "I have a gift. And that gift is something no cat has ever seen before."
"Wolfpaw, just tell me." Angelkit said impatiently.
Wolfpaw took a breath. "Angelkit, I can talk to any animal I choose because I was gifted with the possibility to speak in many different tongues." Wolfpaw stated. Angelkit sat, paralyzed.
"You can?" She gaped finally. Wolfpaw nodded. Angelkit blinked at her and glanced at the Twolegs. "Then that means . . ." She let her words settle in the air. Wolfpaw nodded.
"They've adopted me, Angelkit." Wolfpaw went. Her eyes widened. Wolfpaw bit back fear-filled tears. "Angelkit, listen to me. If you can find a way out of here, take it. Run as fast as you can. The Clan will look after you. Tell them I was captured by a Twoleg." Angelkit nodded, unfocused. "And Angelkit, tell them your not a kittypet anymore." Wolfpaw said and looked behind her as the Twoleg reached its pink paws into the metal web and grasped Wolfpaw under her forelegs. She screeched in protest as it carried her away from Angelkit. Wolfpaw stared at her still figure, frozen in shock. Then she snapped, and started pawing at the air where Wolfpaw was, yowling.
"Wolfpaw!" She howled.
"Angelkit!" Wolfpaw yowled in return. She began to squirm in the Twolegs arms.
"Woah kitty! Calm down!" It cried. Wolfpaw fought harder. Carly-Twoleg glanced at Angelkit then back at Wolfpaw.
"Mrs. Simon, I think this other kitten wants to go home with that one. Would that be alright? I'll half the price for you." Carly-Twoleg purred. Wolfpaw glanced at Angelkit. She was looking at the Simon-Twoleg with kit eyes. She purred and searched for more leaves.
"Here you go Carly," it said, giving her the leaves. Carly-Twoleg smiled and walked over to the web. Angelkit stood stiff as it picked her up under her forelegs and walked over to Simon-Twoleg and helped her to the flat-tree entrance.
"What are you doing?" Wolfpaw hissed.
"I know these roads better than you do." She winked. "And I couldn't leave you behind."
"Thanks Angelkit, but I told you to try and escape." Wolfpaw sighed.
"Wolfpaw, we both know that was highly unlikely." Angelkit purred. She became serious. "So, you can really understand the Twolegs?" She asked.
"Yes, I really can. It's not like I want to. I'd rather have nothing to do with them." Wolfpaw replied.
"You kitties must really like each other." Simon-Twoleg spoke up.
"Angel's always been a talker." Carly-Twoleg said warmly.
Angelkit flicked her ears.
"What'd she say?" She asked, curious.
"She said we must really like each other." Wolfpaw explained. Simon-Twoleg laughed.
"Can she understand you?" Angelkit gasped.
"I don't think so." Wolfpaw turned to the Twoleg. "Your a stinky Twoleg! Let us go or I'll claw your eyes out!" She yowled. Simon-Twoleg didn't even flinch. She just purred and pulled something out of her extra blue-pelt covering her legs. She shivered.
Twoleg's are weird.
Simon-Twoleg pressed the object and Wolfpaw heard a weird growl somewhere off.
"What was that?" She asked Angelkit. She was shaking out of her fur. "Angelkit, what's wrong?"
"A monster." She finally murmured. Wolfpaw's heart leaped into her throat. The Twoleg was taking them to a monster!
"We have to get out of here!" Wolfpaw yowled.
Angelkit breathed through her nose. "We can't." She sighed. "She's taking us to the city."
What's 'the city'?" Wolfpaw asked. She looked over her shoulder. A shiny red monster looked into view. It was crouched down, sleeping. Wolfpaw gulped. Simon-Twoleg crept closer, the monster a tail-length away. Wolfpaw held her breath but was too afraid to squirm. The Twoleg walked around, and gripped what looked like a flap. Pulling, Simon-Twoleg opened what looked like a mouth! There were two weird looking, square stones resting on the grey tongue. They had silvermesh on one side. Wolfpaw gasped as the Carly-Twoleg swung it open and placed Angelkit inside. It was hollow! She struggled but the Twoleg shut it with a clang.
Wolfpaw was next.
Opening the other trap-stone, Simon-Twoleg shut her trap-stones silvermesh flap and stared at her through the metal web.
"Now we'll take you home." She purred. Wolfpaw hissed. Simon-Twoleg backed up then smiled. Wolfpaw began to hyperventilate, and pressed her paws against the sides. Suddenly, Wolfpaw felt as if she was being lifted above the ground and she stumbled. But she was still standing in the trap-stone. Had she gone mad? She looked out the web to see the ground moving around her.
She's carrying me!
Angelkit mewed weakly as she rose into the air as well.
"Wolfpaw!" She cried.
"Angelkit!" Wolfpaw yowled in return. "I'm scared too." She stumbled again as the trap-stone shuddered. "In fact, I'm terrified." She added to herself.
"Wolfpaw, she's taking us to the monster! What are we gonna do?!" Angelkit exclaimed. Wolfpaw looked through the silvermesh to see the red pelt of the monster coming steadily closer.
Wolfpaw screamed to the top of her lungs, "The monster's gonna eat us!"
