Opal's pov

Mom was tense. I couldn't blame her, though. Here was this man who gave her children and left her. I was about to say something when my phone buzzed in my hand.

Gurl hows your daddy? ;-*

I sighed and texted Sugilite back.

Not good. Mom looks PISSED.

Sucks to be him. Imma beat his ass later ;)

I chuckled quietly.

Don't hurt him too much ;)

"Ugh, I can't believe you!" I looked up from my phone, mom was standing with her hands firmly gripping the table. My father chuckled.

"Tahitia, I-"

"Don't Tahitia me! I thought that maybe, for once you wanted to be involved with your daughters' lives! That maybe we could be friends again! But you haven't even acknowledged their presence, just flaunted off your new life as if I was just a bad dream! How do you think Opal feels?" She motioned to me. "And how about Pearl?" Pearl blushed, shocked. "I'll bet she doesn't even remember who you are, and now she knows more about your wife than you!" She started bawling, and ran upstairs, kicking her heels behind her.

"Wow, must be that time of the month," my father laughed, looking at me. I had stood up, looking back and forth between the looks of shock on Pearl, Sardonyx, and especially Ruby's faces, to my father and his insensitivity.

"You need to leave."

"Opal, I-"

"Now." He shifted uneasily in his chair.

"I said get out of here you asshole!"  Instead of waiting for him to respond, I went off to comfort my mother.

Lapis's pov

Peridot was still staring at me. I wondered what reason she could possibly have to look at me that way.

"Lapis, eat your dinner." Mother commanded. I sighed, stuffing a forkful of salad into my mouth.

Jasper and Yellen blabbered on and on about sports and gossip, respectively. Whenever Peridot or I were asked a question, our answers were brief.

"Lapis, are you doing any sports?"

"Cheerleading," I grumbled. "But maybe something else."

"Are you sure the practices won't overlap?" Headmistress Diamond asked, almost sounding cruel.

"Not sure." Mother sighed.

"Well, I've heard you're a good swimmer. Maybe you should join the swim team." The headmistress said after a moment.

"How about you, Peridot?" Mother asked.

"Recently I've started the robotics club." She said quickly.

"Interesting. After dinner, you should show Lapis and Jasper some robots." Peridot muttered something about a clod under her breath, which went unnoticed by everyone else.

I took a sip of my water.

"So Blue," The headmistress asked, putting her fork down. "How's the pregnancy going?"

Opal's pov

"Mom?" I called, knocking lightly on the door. The only sound that greeted me was the sounds of tears.

I opened the door slowly, looking around my mom's room. I noticed her hair peaking just above the side of the bed. I entered the room, closing the door softly behind me.

"Mom?"  I walked around the bed to see her crying, a bottle of champagne intended for after dinner clutched in her hand.

"O-opal?" She asked through tears.

"Yeah, mom?" I asked, sitting next to her.

"Is he still here?" I shook my head.

"I told him to leave." She started crying harder and wrapped her arms around me. "Shh, it's okay mom."

"It's just that you shouldn't have to deal with this!" She sobbed, soaking my shoulder.

"Don't worry. Compared to Sugilite, I've got it easy." She nodded, lifting her head off my shoulder and wiping her eyes. I helped her stand up, and she looked in her mirror.

"Ugh, I'm a mess." She complained, running her fingers through her short hair. "You go downstairs, I'll fix myself up." I nodded, leaving and closing the door.

"Opal." I jumped back, straight into my father.

"Oh," I said, crossing my arms. "You're still here."

"Listen," He said, stepping back. "I know you're upset with me-"

"Oh, so suddenly you know my every thought. Odd for a man whose been gone eleven years." I interrupted.

"Opal, will you just hear me out goddammit?" I tapped my foot. "I know you're upset. You have every right to be so. I wanted to try to have a relationship with you, but I didn't show how much I wanted to." My expression softened, no matter how much I tried to show my anger. "And now, Opal, I just- I've missed you so much, and-" Instead of finishing, he hugged me.

Lapis's pov

I choked on the water. Across the table, Peridot did the same. I spit my water out.

"Mom you're pregnant!" It was supposed to come out as a question, but a statement worked too.

"Uh, yeah, obviously," Jasper said beside me.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked, hurt.

"I announced it as soon as I found out. You must've been at the pool." She stated.

"When's your due date? Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? Oh my Moon Goddess, I can't wait to-"

"Shut the hell up!" My step father shouted. I silenced, blushing.

"Well, it's getting late. I don't want the girls to be too tired for school." The headmistress said, bringing the dinner to an end. I helped clean up the table and we left, the car ride silent.

"I'm going to take a shower," I said, to myself really, when we arrived home. I walked into my room and grabbed some clothes to change into.

I got into the shower and immediately calmed down. Water is so calming, so relaxing. I thought about the swim team. It did seem like the perfect opportunity, and I hadn't made any promises to Rainbow.

"I'll do it." I said, smiling.
