Opal's pov
I was on the edge of my seat as I waited for everyone to enter the auditorium. We all were, even Alexandrite was stiffer than normal.
"I'm sure you'll both do great!" Sardonyx encouraged.
"Girl, only one of them can win." Sugilite reminded her.
"Oh right. My apologies."
"It's fine." I gulped, trying to settle my nerves. I knew if anyone could win, Alexandrite could. But with Rainbow's shenanigans, her winning the election was becoming more and more of a possibility.
The microphone screeched and everyone covered their ears as Mrs. Diamond attempted to fix it.
"Ahem, yes." She straightened her blouse. "I suppose we should start with some of the lesser known roles." This year, she didn't need to introduce the assembly. Everybody already knew it was the day. Teachers who normally had to search through emails to find the date had it written on the board. I'd be surprised if people didn't have reminders set.
Sugi hugged me. "You're okay."
"Senior class historian is..." I clapped politely with everyone else as she read down the list of class historians and other small roles, but I really just wanted to know who the presidents were.
"A nice round of applause for our new Vice Presidents, very good! Now then, could we have our many Presidential nominees join me on stage?" She wasn't exaggerating with that many. While the Freshman and Senior classes had three candidates, Sardonyx's class had four.
I smoothed out my skirt and made my way onstage with everyone else.
"Alright, I suppose you'll all want to hear Senior class president first, our Senior Class President is..."
I almost couldn't register what name she said, but when Alexandrite nudged me, I knew it was true.
The name she had called out had been Opal Baroque.
