Opal's pov
"Miss Baroque, I assume you have a good reason to attend a student government meeting?" I nodded.
"I'm here with Alexandrite." Mrs. Diamond nodded.
"With that settled, let's begin. Are there any issues anyone would like to address?"
"I would like to address the Audio-Video club. I understand you're cutting their funding?" Alexandrite began. Mrs. Diamond nodded.
"Unfortunately, our school is quite low on funds at the moment. We recently updated our school's heating and cooling systems, which costed most of our funds." She explained.
"Do you mind if I ask where the tuition money is spent?" I inquired.
"Well, we do have financial aid and scholarships, which covers rough twenty-five percent of students. As you know, tuition can be paid in bulk at the beginning of the year or half at the start of each semester. We've currently spent the majority of that tuition money on repairs such as the heating and cooling, meanwhile the rest of it as well as our state funding pays for supplies, lunches, and staff paychecks." I nodded.
"But how does this all relate to the AV club?" One girl asked.
"Understanding where our funds go help us to better plan where they need to be." The guy next to her explained. Mrs. Diamond nodded.
"And unfortunately, there are more important things than clubs that the money could be spent on. The AV club has the least amount of members and us the most expensive to maintain, so we unfortunately must shut it down. Our school's population is growing and that classroom is necessary for more classes." Alexandrite raised her hand.
"That may be true, but have all possible courses of action been explored?"
"Alexandrite is right. There has to be a way the AV club can be restored. It's vital to our school! The AV club films and documents our school's games and other important events, and broadcasts them over local cable! It's keeps students and local residents connected to the school. And the school news, not too many people read the school's paper, how will the news be delivered? We need this club!" A few people clapped, and I blushed.
"Very well articulated, Miss Baroque, however there simply isn't enough attention aimed at the club. In fact, it technically doesn't officially count as a club." I thought for a minute.
"What if we can get the AV club to be more popular?" I asked. "Then can we save it?" Mrs. Diamond thought for a minute.
"You have two weeks. Topic adjourned."
"Opal." Alex tapped me on the shoulder after the meeting.
"What?"
"That was daring. Maybe even too daring. Are you sure you know what you're doing?" I nodded.
"I have to. And, I have a plan. Can we get together on Halloween?"
