"I now proudly present to you the graduates of the senior batch of year 2013! I now ask Ms. Megan Carter to step up and give her speech." Our principal, Mr. Hank announced.
Okay, my hands were trembling. My head was spinning and I was nervous as hell. I was chosen to give the valedictorian speech for our graduation. Seriously, why me? It's not like I was student of the year. Taking a deep breath, I reluctantly went up to the stage.
"Distinguished teachers, my fellow classmates, I stand here today, before you, and remember. High school. The most important phase in anyone's life. Some leave this place with good memories, some leave with sour ones, but in the end, we all learn. We make friends, we find love, we weave a journey. And today, we leave all of it behind. Shakespeare once said, There is a tide, in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood leads onto fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of your life is bound up in sorrows and in miseries. On such a full sea we now float, and we must take the current when we serve or lose our ventures. My friends, this is the time we grab up the opportunities that come out way. The time when we choose to serve instead of losing out." Surprisingly once I started speaking, my nerves stopped racking up and the words came out smoothly. The fact that I didn't trip while climbing the stage was a good confidence booster.
"Leaving high school maybe the toughest thing we ever do. But it's time to be brave. To be vigilant. The world is full of opportunities and enchantments, I guess. The world is our oyster and it's our chance to go out there, and find out opportunity. We find the opportunity to succeed, to love, to accomplish something and to live our life. All this is really scary, I know. It's scary as hell. But it's upon us, as to how we use our fear. What we make of it. There is this quote that I really like, which is also Shakespeare's. It says, Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them. Guys, this is our time. Our opportunity. Seize it. Let it take you to wonderful places and let it bring you alive. Let it make you shine. Thank you."
I was appreciated with a round of applause and whistles once I was done. I tried to step down gracefully, but that was just wishful thinking. I did manage to stumble upon the last step a bit.
I'm Megan Carter, the daughter of the famous Jerry Carter of Carter Diamonds. I'm clumsy, weird and borderline crazy. But it's okay since my friends, Emily and Corrie are no less. Speak of the devils...
"OH MY GOD! We did it, Carter! I can't believe it! No more Mr.StinkAss, No more disgusting cafeteria food! We're DONE!" Corrie screamed her lungs out while pulling me and Emily into a group hug. "Adiós high school and voilà college life. But before that...ROAD TRIP! ROAD TRIP! ROAD TRIP! " She jumped up and down. Seriously, she is so weird. I mean, who uses French and Spanish in the same sentence?
Ah. The road trip. You must be wondering about that so let me clear it up for you. Me and the girls had made a pact, not so long ago on a very, very drunk night, that the day high school comes to an end we three will go on a ROAD TRIP! Now I might not show my excitement, but let me tell you that I have been waiting for this for MONTHS! Finally! Time never flies fast when you want it to. Tsk. Tsk.
"Yes, my love! The day has arrived! The day we finally embark upon our journey. You see this day will go down in history as the day an epic journey started. A journey that changed the lives of three very sexy young girls." I said with a lot of dramatic effect.
"Yeah, yeah. Stop with the dramatics Maggie. Okay so we leave at four today. You're picking me and Corrie from my house right?" Emily asked me.
"Yup. 4 o'clock sharp. I can't wait to get out of this place! I've always wanted to go to Vendetta." I exclaimed. You see, Vendetta is our first destination and I seriously can't freakin' wait.
