The Marine

Mission 2

    So we finally got to the town we were supposed to be there earlier but we got held up..... I was in the front alongside other army men... it didn't feel right walking into a mission without my fellow comrades, I had to trust these men that I met today with my life.. and they have to trust me with their lives... it was going to be hard, they won't listen to me I know that.. which means I have to follow them... I looked around for the captain but I didn't see him... One army man said, "Your captain is with ours.." I nodded and continued... I didn't forget the cameraman was behind me.... ugh I hate reporters..... when we got to the edge of town something was off..... No one was outside.... it was silent... too silent.. no kids running up to us for food.. this made me nervous since this means we are going into some deep shit..... before we can continue, I turned around, facing the rest of the men and women...

And said "Listen, I know you don't know me, and I don't know you, but we got to trust each other because I am not going in there without knowing no one has my back... I will tell you this... I have your back, so please get mine... it's going to be a long day guys... I know my place in this war... I'm here to help and not command you, but having each other's backs is no command... it's a survival task... I am glad I am here... I want to fight with you men and women, hopefully, you want to fight with me as well. And before we go in there.... make sure you have a partner and keep that partner until its over..... I have a feeling it will be a long battle but if we have each other's backs, then we will be ok... If a man goes down, don't walk away you go get him... the marines don't leave anyone behind and I am bringing that here today... I am not trying to say that anyone will be dying today.. it is just a light warning.... good luck out there men and keep your head up....."

    With that I went to my captain and tried to see what the plan was.... the plan sucked... it was a joke... they wanted us just to go in there guns blazing... that's a freaking stupid, suicidal plan.... but I have no say in this... I walked away and sat where my tent was and just got a book and read it until the captains are ready... 

   All of a sudden a guy came and sat near me and said "Yo drake I got your back man... I know these men don't like having to fight with you because we don't know you... but your another brother even though you're in the marines... I am just saying I have your back.." I nodded and said, "Thanks I got your back as well.."  He smiled and held out his hand and said "Name is James"

    I shook his hand and said "Hey James... how long have you been in the army?" He said, "2nd tour what about you?" I said "1st tour" 

    He was surprised "What the hell man really? Where are your other men." I said "They are at home... I was in the hospital and ended up here haha but I don't mind I am ok." He nodded and before I continued I saw Phil walking towards us... and I also saw that freakin camera man.. I grumbled and James went "What's wrong?" 

    I said, "That freakin cameraman... he shouldn't be going with us..."  Phil said, "Hey guys what are you all talking about?" James and I both said our heys and I replied "That freakin cameraman." Phil laughed and said, "Man that guy loves you.. he has been recording only you... did you know that?"  I sighed and said "I did its freaking annoying man... why me? why not everyone else... I am not the major man here.... plus it's my first tour so I don't get it, man, I really don't." 

James said, "Maybe its because you're the only marine here... plus your captain but still..." 

I made a face "Maybe... I'll be back I got to talk to my captain about this guy.." 

They laughed and said ok... I went to my captain "Hey cap I got to talk to you for a minute..."

We went to somewhere where no one was there and I said: "What are we going to do with the cameraman?"

The captain said, "well obviously he is coming with us.."

I said "Are you joking? He is coming... with no experience in battle, shooting guns, the sound of grenades and shootings... he is just going to be another man I have to make sure is safe and if he gets shot or killed the responsibility  will be on my ass... this mission is getting out of control and I know you think so too, but your going to disagree, I know you are going to yell at me and make me do some weird punishment but I am telling the truth... this cameraman can't come with us! We can put a camera on my helmet so he can watch here while we go in..."

   The captain didn't say anything and said "Wow Drake this is the first time I saw you speak the truth.. you have some balls and for that, I am not going to say anything about you speaking the truth... that might be a good idea... I will go talk to him about it... and I will tell you what he says..." I nodded and I saluted and walked back... I can't believe I did that... I sighed in relief..  then my cap said: "Drake wait a minute.." I turned around and said "yes sir?" he said, "Don't you ever think about being a leader or captain?" I said "No offense cap but I rather not be one... I won't like leading people into battle... I rather follow you into battle.." He nodded and said I could go and I did...

    I went back to Phil and James and told him what I told my cap and they gave me a high five for being awesome.... the cap came back and said the cameraman liked that idea better than actually going... I was glad he chose the idea I came up with... now I don't have to worry about some random guy...

Cap then returned hopefully for the last time and gave us cameras to put on our helmets and we did..... We were called and sent into groups I was with Phil and James.... and 3 other guys...

    We all had different areas to go into... we, of course, had the middle.. the camera dude made sure all our cameras were on... and we all headed out.....
