The Marine

New Squad...

          I was on the way back to Iraq, sitting on the aisle seat which annoyed me since the only activities I could do was watch some stupid show or people watch... The show was on a commercial and the people, aka marines looked like they were coming for their first tour... Suddenly a voice behind me broke me from my thoughts "Excited this is our first deployment... crazy right"  I noted that I was right and sank into my seat while closing my eyes. The other two marines next to me were chatting and I was obviously eavesdropping "I heard there is a badass squad where we are going"  The other said "Seriously? Who?"  The one said "They are called "The Wolf Pack"  I believe..."  I never heard of them before... The second said 'Your lying aren't you?"  The first said "No..seriously! Did you hear of Drake Mathews?  I heard he was the leader of it"  I wanted to burst out laughing, this is some bullshit... The second "I know Drake Mathews and dude such a lie... he ain't no leader of any squad... you heard his interview"  The first said "I heard he was ordered to do it by his captain"  Suddenly a guy from behind said "Dude I heard the same shit, Drake Mathews that badass Marine is now a leader of the wolf pack... fucking insane, I want to get in that squad" Everyone was talking about it and me... I finally had enough... 

"Everyone Shut the fuck up,"  I said... everyone stopped talking and the guy next to me said "We are allowed to talk...damn...."  I said "yes I know.. but stop talking about me..."  Everyone was frozen starring me down in shock...Some were smiling and some had their mouths hanging down... The guy behind us said "You're the Drake Mathews? I don't believe it... why would you be sitting with us?"  I said "Because I got put here... look I am no special Marine you should be awing over, there are a lot of us who should be looked up too as well, plus this is like my fourth tour haha"  The guy said "Drake seriously, your the reason I enlisted"  I was surprised and said "You're fucking with me"  He shook his head "no..." I said, "Did you know what you put yourself into?"  He nodded and said, "Of course!" I sighed and said "I guess I should thank you? I don't know, your the first person to ever say that to me..." He smiled and soon we all just remained quiet. 

I yawned and stretched at the same time, I was thinking of taking a nap until I heard my name "REX!!!"  I looked up and saw Jack and I stood up and we hugged and he sat in the seat next to me... I said, "why are you in this flight?"  He said, "I missed my other one... why are you back here?"  I shrugged and said "I got put back here... apparently they thought I was in this new squad named Wolf Pack and the best part they thought I was leading it"  Jack burst out laughing and said "You leading a squad?  In everyone's dreams.. this man declines so many offers to be a leader... kept saying "I'm just a follower" or some shit like that.."  I heard others laugh and I rolled my eyes and said "Can't wait to get back out there... was dying at home"  Jack rolled his eyes "Only you would be excited to come back... not much at home I assume?"  I shrugged said, "I mean my family is there and I got a new brother... met some new friends, but I don't know just wanted to come back..."  Jack nodded understanding me and said, "Cap call ya?"  I frowned and said, "Nope, you?"  Jack shrugged and said "Nope...I heard Elliot is switching squads..."  I said "Seriously?  What about ours?"  Jack said "Dude... I heard our squad is changing once we hit the ground"  I froze and looked at him like he had two heads and said, "Who told you this.."  Jack said "Dash told Meat... apparently, Dash heard from our captain himself"  I muttered, "fuck..."  Jack and I were quiet and so was everyone... I said "All the shit we been through together, and we are just switching?  Did someone do something?"  Jack said, "I am as clueless as you are... luckily we are here so we can talk to Cap ourselves.."  I noticed we arrived and I gather my shit and Jack and I headed to the exit...

We landed and we exited the copter... We ran to our tent and there was everyone... looking happy, I was confused and said "Why is everyone so happy?  We are switching fucking squads!"  They all frowned and Elliot said, "Well hello to you too Rex..." Everyone burst out laughing... Until we heard our captain "I am guessing you all heard the news"  We all nodded and He frowned and said "It is because I am getting reassigned to a different position... I will be the New Head Officer so I am going to be deployed back to the states helping those Fresh meats get ready for their deployment...So there are new captains here and some old ones... You all will be unfortunately separated... there was nothing I could do...If you head to the shooting range where you will find your new team"  We all nodded and headed out... We knew not to argue back because we knew we couldn't do anything about it...
