You make it hard to be faithful, with the lips of an angel.

Castiel got up from his bed, his current girlfriend snoring lightly. Hannah was her name. He stretched and quietly walked into his kitchen, looking at the freshly risen sun. His phone was on the granite countertop, as he had been there last night...

Castiel was suddenly aware he was only in his boxers, and he blushed. Despite the fact no one could see him. His phone began to buzz and he grabbed and answered it before it could wake up Hannah. "Yes?" He said for the first time since waking. Castiel's voice was still rough from not using it all night (well...). "Castiel?"

Her voice made him freeze and melt at the same time. His head spun and he gripped the phone tightly, his throat constructing from the suppressing emotion. "[Y/N]?" Cas choked out. He quickly glanced around before hurrying to the bathroom and locking the door quietly.

"Why are you calling?"

"Just wanted to talk, sheesh. I just finished my morning run and was bored." Ouch.

Castiel sighed, running a hand through his black hair. "What do you want, [Y/N]?" He heard his bedroom door open and feet shuffle past the bathroom. "Well, I just wanted to see if we could hang out. You did say we could be friends after you dumped me, tragically enough." And I regret doing it. The thought remained unspoken by Castiel, and he just stayed quiet. "Yeah, sure, where?"

_

You readjusted your top, pulling out your phone to play a game. Castiel hung up on you 15 minutes ago, because of Hannah. He said, "She wants to spend time with me." You just rolled your eyes. In other words, she was wanting him to pay attention to her and only her.

Someone sat down next to you, and you looked up, a smile forming on your face. "Hi, Castiel."

The black haired, blue eyed man sat next to you—awkwardly. "Man, awkward much? We can be friends, right?" Castiel laughed nervously and glanced at you. That's the thing, I don't know if I can be around you without wanting you back.

You watched him fiddle with his hands before he turned to you, abruptly. "[Y/N]," he began, "I—"

"Castiel!"

Oh, fuck you!

"Hannah? Did you...follow me?" The petite brunette shook her head frantically. "I heard you earlier and I just came to tell you that..." She trailed off when her blue eyes landed on you. "Uh..." She began, looking at Cas for reassurance. "Can we, please, talk alone for a minute?" You butted in, wanting to hear what Cas was going to say.

Hannah nodded before backing off to sit at a bench far enough away she couldn't hear them. "Hey, what were you going to say?" Castiel looked stricken.

Why?

"[Y/N]...I was going to say I thought it was too awkward to be friends." He rushed out, and your heart deflated. "Oh..." You whispered. "I—I understand. You just never can really be friends again after breaking up, huh?" You laughed dryly, standing up. "I should go, my friends wanted me to go out with them later. I guess I can go now." And with that, you walked away. Again.

Castiel was pissed at himself. He let the one person who could make him happy and sad—go. He watched your retreating figure before he balled his fist. Faster than he could think, his fist had punched the hard wood bench so hard his knuckles split.

Don't go, I made the wrong mistake again. I will change, we can be friends—we can be more! Just...please don't leave...

Castiel stood up stiffly and walked to his car, getting in and driving to nowhere. He wasn't ready to go back to Hannah yet. His mind was jumbled and his heart was broken.

"Castiel!" Hannah yelled when he picked up his phone, "Castiel where did you go?" "I need to be alone right now, Hannah." He hit end and finally parked his car. He got out and looked across the horizon. A single person sat on the dock, staring straight ahead. Cas walked up to them, sitting beside them. "Hello," his voice was gravelly, deep, "[Y/N]."

_

You turned around when you heard someone next to you. "Hello, Castiel." You said, turning back to face the glimmering water. The sunlight reflected off it, casting beautiful lights to dance across the sleek and smooth top of the waters. "I lied, you know." He said softly. You still didn't look at him. "Because of Hannah? You don't want to ruin whatever pity party you have with her?" You snapped, jealousy seeping in through your voice. "You want to seem as if you were the better one of us two? Or was it just because you wanted to rip me a new one again because you felt like it?" Castiel was shocked—and speechless.

"[Y/N]—" You shot up, your eyes glimmering like the surface of the serene lake. "No. Castiel, you can't keep stringing me along. Just because I still have feeling for you, doesn't mean you can go flaunt you power around whenever you feel like it. Just reject me when I ask, because I don't want to experience the same pain I felt over and over again. Leave me alone, I'm done playing whatever little game we had. I'm tired of it, I'm tired of it all." You walked away, not looking back once to see his sad and hurt face.

_

Castiel sighed, watching you leave. He didn't know, he honestly didn't know.

But now it was too late to fix everything. All because he wanted to look like he moved on.

He got up, throwing a rock into the lake, disturbing the serene lake. It broke out into ripples, the water so desperately trying to right everything back. Just like Castiel had tried.

Castiel sat down back on the pier, remembering her words. He guessed he never really moved on.
