That awkward moment when you haven't updated in a month

The line was long, slowly but steadily chugging along. Sighing, she glared at the people holding up the line. A guy and girl—who Katie never bothered to figure out their names—were flirting in the front, blatantly ignoring the vexingly long line of pissed students behind them. Katie glanced down at her food, calculating that she had more than enough to eat and be well, before grabbing her tray and cutting all the frozen like people. Some gaped at her and others sneered. They didn't like the thought of the Native American girl cruising past them, or disrupting their orderly balance.
With a loud slam, Katie put her tray in front of the register, glaring knives at the flirtatious couple. Their voices died out in their throats and the girl mashed her lips together in annoyance. The guy just seemed bored that he wouldn't get a quick one later on. "Excuse me," Katie smiled sweetly, jutting a hip out and twirling a strand of hair to mock the other girls stance. "But I, like, was getting hungry. And all those, like, people were being total dumbasses and not moving." She enunciated total and then went back to standing normal. Katie paid for her lunch before waving at the dumbstruck flirters.
Seemed like people in this school needed to grow some.

Ok, apparently those students didn't have any, but these one did.
Katie was eating outside, swiping through her phone and eating, when she heard the scuffle. It was soft, but the sound of a body hitting pavement was one she would recognize anywhere. Standing up quickly, banging her knee on the table, she hissed silently. "Ow, fuck, ugh!" She gripped her knee tightly, a reaction that was worthless but made it feel like putting pressure on the bruise would help stop the pain.
After the small mishap, Katie proceeded to get down to business and find out why the hell someone was being thrown to the ground. Memories flashed behind her eyes and a small wince managed to weasel it's way up, past, and out her throat.
"Girls aren't suppose to have tattoos!"
"What reservation are you off from? Do we need to report a lost Indian?"
Katie closed her eyes and took a deep breath. A small smile made its way onto her lips. Those words may have hurt in the moment, but she wouldn't let them affect her now. So what if she was a different skin color? She could still beat other people's asses. And succeed just as much. Not that she was a very violent person, just had a price on her temper.
Rounding the brick building corner, Katie stumbled back when someone roughly rushed at her. The collision propelled them both to the ground and Katie was the first up. "What the—" her eyes narrowed on a group of guys and a few girls chatting and snickering and sneering at the poor kid who ran into her. "Hey!" She barked, her blood boiling. "What do you think you're doing!"
A guy smirked and stepped forward, tilting his head back in a laugh. "What do you think sweetheart?" Katie gridded her teeth against each other, stalking forward and glaring up at the guy. "I think you're being assholes who are picking on an innocent person! What makes you think you're so high and mighty? The fact that you're popular in high school? What goes through your petty brains that make you think that bullying will get you somewhere in life! Maybe working as a mindless car washer with a neck beard is what you're aiming for. Hm, pathetic," Katie sneered back, tilting her head to the side mockingly. "Brains is always over bronze, and I'm sure riding on a full scholarship from football would get you anywhere." The guy was red-faced, his temper clearly showing. Katie shoved him with a hiss, gripping his shirt in her hands and jerking him down to make him wince. "If I ever catch you hurting anyone again," Katie whispered in his ear, taking a breath to let suspense full him.
