"Hidan." I answered in barely above a whisper. The girls looked at each other and smiled.
"What about him?" Maeko questioned in sheer excitement. "Did you have a crush on him?" I don't know what happened.
I smacked her hard with my sheathed sword, taking her and Chiya by surprise. "He was my best friend! He was supposed to find me, but he never did! Why didn't he find me?" The question was choked and I sunk to the ground.
After the war I obtained my sword, Juryoku, which was our fathers. The people that stayed in Yugakure trained me brutally and awakened my kekkei genkai. They turned me into a blood thirsty killer and did the same with Hidan and anyone else left in our village. When I was thirteen I ran away for a reason I don't remember. I think it had something to do with people taking advantage of what I could do.
Maeko and Chiya had been taken away to be kept safe from me and the world Yugakure had turned into. It was dangerous for them. I was what Chiya was kept safe from. Our kekkei genkai and history is why Maeko was brutally trained.
And I hadn't ever had a crush on Hidan. I loved him, but not the way Maeko wished I had. He was the only good thing I had left after father died, mother left, and Maeko and Chiya were taken away. Grandmother and Hidan were all I had. When I left I had nothing. I could remember nothing. I didn't understand how the past seven years of my life were gone.
"Etsuko." Grandmother's voice snapped me out of it.
"What happened to Hidan?" I asked her, not caring about anything else.
"The Akatsuki recruited him after you left. Since you were gone there was no reason for him not to say yes. Even if he hadn't he would have had to go with them anyway." She answered.
I stood up and looked heavily at the girls. "I want to know one more thing." I stated and looked to our grandmother. "What happened to me when I left?" I questioned.
"Not long after you left you were abducted. You were transported to another world just like the girls and kept separate from that. You were given false memories about your life up until age thirteen." She answered.
"Thank you." I turned away from her. I took a deep breath before turning back around and stabbing Juryoku through her middle. The old woman smiled and patted my hand before taking her last breath.
"Why did you do that?" Chiya asked me in shock.
"She turned me into a monster." I answered and left, both girls and Hero following me. "We're going to Kumogakure so I can kill our mother for being a back stabbing coward." I sheathed Juryoku and ignored the silence from the girls. Everything was clear now. I knew who I had been before, who I had been told I was, and who I am now.
"Etsuko!" I spun around again, ready to chop the person to bits.
"Oh my..." Maeko trailed off again, just like she had at first mention of him. There was no trailing for me. I just ran. I threw my arms around his neck, narrowly missing his scythe, but he pushed me off.
"Why the fuck did you leave?" He shouted at me, which made me angry.
"I left because there was nothing left for me here! I waited for you and stayed where I knew you would find me, but I was captured before you came." I yelled back at him.
"How fuckin' stupid can you be, Etsuko? You should have known!" He continued to yell at me.
"Shut up Hidan!" I shoved him and then contradicted myself by hugging him. That time he didn't push me off.
