"I don't know yet. What kind are you getting, Nao?" I didn't know how she could be so happy after watching someone die and being beaten by both parents. Was I happy after the villagers turned Hidan and me into monsters?
"I want strawberry; the kind with real strawberries in it!" She answered, still holding onto Kakuzu's head for support. "What kind are you getting Kakuzu-san?" Eventually it's going to be impossible for him to deny her childish adorableness. She won't give him a choice. The Akatsuki don't stand a chance.
"What are you so happy about?" Kakuzu asked me sharply.
"I swear Kakuzu; don't you know how to have fun? You can't be the big bad s-ranked Akatsuki criminal all the time. Everyone should have their Tobi moments." I told him with my hands on my hips and nose in the air.
"Not even Tobi should have Tobi moments, Etsuko." He insisted.
"Okay so maybe not, but you get my point! Don't you do anything for fun? I mean, things that are actually fun? Don't things aside from bounties and fighting make you smile?" I asked him as we neared the village again.
"No, the only things that make me happy are money and a worthy opponent now shut up before you become my next victim!" He yelled, getting very close into my personal space.
"So nice of you to say I make you happy Kakuzu. After all, you did say I was a worthy opponent." I said slyly and he growled.
"That isn't what I meant!" Nao shrieked at his loudness and held tighter to his head so she wouldn't fall off.
"Oh, really? Well, I bet I could find some other things that would make you happy, old man." I teased. His eyes widened and he moved quickly out of my face. "Well I never said it had to be me now did I? I could always hire someone. It would do you good; what do you say Kakuzu?" I was kidding of course, but I love getting reactions.
"Say one more thing about it and I'll tie that headband around your neck and leave you at the bounty office!" I pretended to be offended by his threat.
"You didn't have to be so mean Kakuzu. I was just kidding." I said and looked down, letting my hair cover my face.
"Ah, ane-chan, don't be sad." Nao said and petted my head.
"I'm not." I huffed and threw a narrow look at Kakuzu. "I was just trying to make him feel bad." He glared at me and grabbed my arm roughly.
"Let's get your damn ice cream." He dragged me all the way to the little ice cream shop and we sat down.
"What can I get you today?" A nice old woman asked.
"I would very much like chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and hot fudge please." I announced with an awed glint in my eyes.
"Are her damn toppings extra?" Kakuzu rudely asked the woman with his browns drawn together in an intense glare. The woman's expression gradually fell and her eyes widened. She must have noticed his cloak.
"N-no sir, it's on the house." She answered and attempted a smile again. He calmed down slightly and the old woman looked to Nao. "And what can I get you dearie?" She asked, seeming to relax a little bit.
"I would like strawberry with real strawberries and whipped cream and...and...and rainbow sprinkles!" She announced, pointing excitedly to each things as she said it.
The ice cream was amazing and I think Nao talking to the old woman and embarrassing Kakuzu made her feel less weary of us. Nao could probably do that to anyone. She's so cute and polite. She didn't disserve the situation she was in. She also doesn't disserve to be stuck with the Akatsuki, but it'll have to do. At least she'll have people to love her. You know, assuming Pein doesn't murder us when we get back to base in three days.
