Just a Little While Longer || An anime love story

Chapter 1

     I have this friend of mine. We're seriously best friends. We grew up together, known each other our whole life. His name is Ayato and mine is Shay. He's more of the player type nowadays. We go to school together. And you know what? I just found out...I like him. I don't really know the true meaning of love so it's probably just another silly crush again. I don't think it'll get to serious.

     How does it feel though? To be in love? Love...What is love?

     I walk into school and there's so many ruckus. Oh gosh, better run again since Ayato's here. Honestly, everyone likes Ayato. We always walk to school together so I'm always in trouble when we go to school because I'll get pushed off. Then again, I don't make it in time to escape and crowds of girls are already coming and...they push me away.

      "Can y'all—Oh my gosh! Stop pushing me you—Freaks!" I yell but of course, no one hears, they're too busy looking at Ayato. Rolling my eyes, I get up from being pushed down.

"Shay! You good? Getting pushed again huh?" My best friend Arisa came and said. "Just like everyday." I complain. "Then why are you always walking with him?" She asked. "Because he wants to. I know it's hard to believe, whatever, not that I care." I replied. "Ooh, remember our field trip today?! We're going on a ferry!" Arisa exclaims changing the subject.

"Why would I forget that? I'm the student prez. Duh."

"Heh, right."

"I have to go do prez stuff. See you on the bus." I said walking away. "Bye!" She waves. I head to our homeroom to get some stuff. Today we have a field trip that's going to last 2 nights and we're traveling through a ferry to get there. I saw two boxes there and picked it up. It's a bit heavy and just when I'm about to drop one, someone comes and got it before it fell on the floor.

"Oh, Ayato." 😒 I said. "Really? That's it? No 'thank you'?" He asked. "I didn't needed your help. How did you even got here so fast? Ugh, forget that, go outside already." I tell him. "Ah but a lady is in need of help." He says. "Fine then carry this too." I hand him the other box then picked up other supplies and we started walking out.

And of course, when we went out, girls starts coming towards Ayato again.

"Ayato, why are you holding that?"

"Ayato, leave that there."

"Ayato, let's sit together."

"So annoying, stop getting attention already." I mumble to myself but somehow Ayato caught that. "I'll sit with y'all later, right now I'm helping prez okay?" He smiles. Oh my gosh. The girls smiles and left. "If you're going to attract attention then just leave with them already, I don't want to see you flirting."

"Why? You're jealous?" He smirks. "In your dreams! Hurry up." I demanded and started walking faster. Honestly, this guy is a total player.

     After we got the stuff in one of our teacher's car, Ayato runs off greeting girls again. I roll my eyes half expecting him to talk more to me. I sigh and went on the bus. Seeing Arisa, I sit next to her. "That Ayato, he's suck a jerk." I complained. "Ayato-kun is so hot though!" She disagreed.

     "Easy for you to say, I've known that idiot my whole life." I said rolling my eyes. "Just let it go, people can change Shay. You probably changed too. You don't smile at all, probably did back then." She told me. "I—"

     "Last time she smiled was back in 4th grade." Ayato cuts me off. "What? How did she look like when she smiled Ayato-kun?" Arisa asked. "She looked cute." He answered with a smile. "Aww—"

     "Not aww." I cut off Arisa. "Go back to talking to your girls Ayato." I turned to him. "Whoa, prez smiled? 4th grade?" A boy asked looking over at us from his seat. "Prez smiling? Oh my gosh, that's hard to believe." Another said popping up from the back seat then suddenly everyone else comes into the conversation about me smiling.

     Great, just great. Yeah, I don't smile nowadays. Not since 4th grade, can't believe Ayato remembered that. I have my reasons for not smiling, besides, what's the point of smiling? Not answering to their questions, Ayato answered them all.

"How did she looked?"

"She looked cute."

"Why don't she smile now?"

"I don't know."

     And you get the point. "Okay, shut up, shut up. Get back to your seats, we're about to leave, the quicker we go, the faster we'll be there. Now sit your butts down!" I demanded annoyed. They all listened and sat back to where they sat. "Wow, it's hard to believe someone like you ever smile." Arisa tells me. "Well, I had my reasons." I told her. It's nice, Arisa and Ayato never asked what the reason was, instead, they told me that when I'm ready to tell, they'll listen. Other people just go asking why I don't smile which is mad annoying but those two are different.

     Although I never told them yet, they don't even push me to know why even though I can tell they also want to know the reason...

     Once we all got on the ferry, the ferry started moving and I'm looking at the view from the decks. It's so nice... I said feeling the breeze and little rain on me. "Well don't you like the rain. Everyone else runs from it." A voice comes and I know that was Ayato. "You never change." He said.

     "What do you mean by that?" I asked turning to him. "It's not a bad thing, it's nice how you don't change that easily unlike other people." He said. "Yeah, unlike you." I pointed out. "What? What part of me changed?" He asked unconvinced. "Your personality, your looks, your attitudes, and there's many other things that changed about you." I answered him. "Change isn't always a bad thing. I changed for the good." He said.

     "Whatever." I said turning around, back to the water. The water glistens in the sun and I can see a small rainbow forming with the rain. "This is our first time on a ferry right? Deng, I don't remember the last time we went on a field trip." Ayato says as comes near me leaning over the railing.

     "Ayato! Come here man, we're playing a game." One of Ayato's friend comes. "Ight, I'll be there. See ya Shay." And with that, he walks off leaving me alone again. Ugh, why does it even matters if he's gone? It doesn't though. I sigh and look at the water again.

     "Shay! What are you doing? It's raining and it might get worse, come on. You're gonna catch a cold." Arisa comes. "It's fine, I'll be fine." I assure her. "No you won't, you know you catch colds that easily and your sensitive about the rain so come on!" Arisa argues. "Just a few more minutes, then I'll go back in."

     "Okay fine, but don't tell me I didn't warn you." She said and went back in. I started sniffing knowing that I'll catch a cold soon. Doesn't matter, just let me catch a cold. It's not gonna affect anything anyways. Just a little while longer.
