Just a Little While Longer || An anime love story

Chapter 22

     Sensei had asked me to go pick some blue berries that were out here somewhere in the woods. I gladly accepted since I had nothing else to do so why not? On the way of going into the woods, I passed by Takuma and stopped him. "Takuma-kun!" I called. I paused and looked back. "I think she's ready to hear you out." I smiled then he got the signal and his mouth broke into a beam. "Thanks Shay!" He said and left.

     I smiled and went into the woods. "Geez, why do these berries have to be out here?" I complain, mumbling to myself. Sensei had told me to follow the trail and so I did. Minutes later, I found the berries and broke into a smile. Bending down, I start picking out the good berries.

     "Hey, isn't that Ayato's girl?" I heard a guy voice ask. "Yeah, it is." The other replied. "Hey, Shay!" The first one called out. I turn my head and saw that they were coming my way. "Out here alone in the woods?" One ask. I nodded. "Where's Ayato? Aren't you two always together?"

     "Hey, the girls said them two it in a fight." The other one said. Their faces turned back on me. "Oh. Hey, you can hang out with us." They offered. I shook my head politely. "No thanks." I denied. But the two of them kept pushing me to hang out with them.

     Without me expecting it, one was about to put a hand on me when all of a sudden I feel a hand covering my eyes and heard a familiar voice. "Don't touch her."

     The voice belonged to Ayato. "Ah, sorry man." The two guys apologized and left. Now I was all alone with Ayato—or so I thought. When he let go of me, I saw that he was with two other girls. One of them tipped the bowl where the berries were and when it fell, I gasp. Those two girls giggled.

     Ayato bends down to get the bowl. "Yah, don't be rude." He says and handed me the bowl back. I saw that all the berries I had picked were all on the ground and useless. "Um, Ayato-kun, about yesterday—"

     "Bye." He says then left with the two other girls.

     The two of them looked back at me and gave me glares and pitiful smiles, as if they won. I just stood there speechless. My heart felt like it had just been stabbed my a knife. Some tears had also fell down my cheeks but I quickly wipe them away and tried to ignore what had just happened as I picked some berries again.

     Some minutes later, I heard Arisa's voice shouting excitedly. "Shay! Shay! We made up!" She exclaims. I looked up and gave her a smile. "Seriously? How did it go? So what was his reason?" I asked. "Apparently, the girl was only his sister." She smiled.

     I looked at her bluntly and hit her head hard. "Ow!" She goes. "You! That was the reason?! What is wrong with you?!" I took a deep breath and started relaxing again. "At least you made up. Congrats." I smiled. "Now help me pick these berries, we still gotta clean them later on." I said grabbing her by the arm.

     Arisa groans, the pauses when she saw all the other berries on the ground. "What happened here? You being clumsy?" She asks. "Something like that." I shrugged not denying it. Then Arisa looks at me sympathetically. "I saw Ayato-kun on the way here with two girls. Did you guys spoke? What did you say to him?"

     "Well I tried to say something to him but all he said was 'bye' so I figured he just thinks I'm bothersome now." I sighed. "Shay, I'm so sorry. This was all my fault." She apologizes. "Don't worry about it. Just help me with these berries." I told her, trying to ignore the conversation about Ayato.

     After taking care of the berries and all, we had a barbecue. Ayato sat with his friends while I sat with Arisa, Takuma, Yui-senpai, and some other people. I wasn't really all focused on Ayato cause the food had drawn me in. "Does she eat a lot when she's upset?" Takuma asks. "She eats a lot more when she's upset." Arisa replied.

     What they were saying we're true, but then again, it doesn't really matter cause I eat a lot anyways.

     After that whole day of not talking to Ayato, it was night time. The others were outside, saying they wanted to see the night sky, eating s'mores, and watching for fireflies. I just laid in my cabin bed, not giving much of a care. I was so sleepy  but Ayato kept repeating in my mind. Then finally, I let out a loud groan and sat straight up. "Ugh!"

     ———Seconds later, I screamed so hard and ran out of the cabin, the others probably heard me since they stopped and looked at me 😱. I quickly grab Arisa's sleeves and bend down crying😭. "S-Shay, what happened?" She asks. Other huddled around me, concerned by why I was crying. "It was a big spider!" I cried.

     Some of them stilled looked at me sadly but others pulled away, as if I was stupid. "What the heck?" One of the girls said. With that, I stood up and glare at her. "Fine, go see for yourself then if you think you're so brave." I challenged. "Fine." She says and called out some of her friends. The others watched as they went in the cabin I just flew out of.

     Seconds later, the four girls screamed so hard and came running back. "Okay, okay, now I get it." They say. Some of them also had tears streaming down their faces. "Sensei we can't sleep there. No way!" I told him. "Geez, what's so bad about a harmless—"

     "Harmless?!" The five of us girls who had seen that creature shouted as one of the guys were talking. "Well, somebody gotta take care of it." Said sensei. A couple of guys, including Takuma and Ayato volunteered to. A couple of minutes later, they came back and Ayato had my blanket in his hand. "Well, it's dead, and it's in here." He says. "Grave it, grave it. Burry it and keep it there." I demand. "There's no way I'm sleeping with that blanket."

     "Shay, we don't have an extra blanket for you then." Sensei says. "Well, I'd rather freeze myself than to sleep with that blanket." I protest. "Right, cause you hate these creatures." Ayato playfully rolls his eyes, careful to not say the name of the creature cause he knows I'll burst out crying if he does. Then him and some other guys went to grave the blanket. I'll miss you blanket! 😭

     "Sensei we're not sleeping in that cabin!" A girl shouts. "There's bond to be more." She explains. Sensei sighs😪. "Well, I guess we have tents if you'd rather—"

     "Yes!" We answered at the same time. The other girl cabin agreed as well. So we started setting up four tents. The guys were still sleeping in the cabins even after what had just happened. So now me and Arisa have to share blankets since mine died. Heh. 😂
