Wastelands? All I See Is A Paradise

A/N: Mikaela Week Day 4 - Apocalypse In a world where most everything died in the Devastation, In-Between's are the only places humans still reside and everything is a barren landscape, you either give up and die, become a thief, or try and find the Untouched place. A place that flourishes with life. Basically, a seeker of the Untouched place, Mika gets his ass kicked by rogue thief Yuu. Yuu is mischievous flirt whom Mika swears he hates, but nobody, not even Mika himself, is buying into that lie. Soon, Mika realizes he shouldn't lie to himself, and things take a turn from there.

"Fuck you." Mika spat, struggling to remove the ropes tying his hands behind his back. Damn thieves.

"You'll have to try a bit harder and be a little more creative to hurt my feelings, sweetie. I've been there and done that at least more than 100 times." The thief laughed. His black hair was messy, and blended in with the night and barren landscape better than anything. Which was also the reason Mika hadn't seen him coming. His eyes were still covered with the goggles he'd had on when Mika first noticed him, so he hadn't seen his eyes. Yet.

"How many innocent people have you fuckers slaughtered?" Mika growled, disgusted beyond words at the thief's admittance. The thief huffed, clearly agitated by something.

"We don't kill, just take horses, gold, and whatever else we may need. Sometimes, we recruit some of the people we steal from." The inky hair of the boy before him swayed in the slight breeze of the night. Mika looked to the star-speckled sky, it's navy darkness a comforting sight in this strange situation.

"Oh really?" Mika asked, his tone clearly laced with potent sarcasm. "Are you going to recruit me too?" The thief turned, looking over his shoulder from where he was rummaging through Mika's meager belongings.

"I might. When you tried to fight me earlier, I would have lost if you hadn't tripped because of that divot, Princess." The thief smirked, irking Mika even more. How dare that fucker call him a Princess? Sure, he looked like a girl, but he was far from a spoiled little girl. Then Mika got an idea, not a very good one, but it would agitate the thief to no end.

"Oh, I don't know, you're the one that's more of a Princess here." He commented, not looking at the thief. Instead he looked at the ground. What a nice ground of endless dirt and stones. Ah yes, the nice, welcoming dirt, Mika thought bitterly.

"D-did you just?" The thief was obviously taken off-guard. He had clearly not been expecting that bit to come from one of his victim's mouths.

"What if I did?" Mika responded, still with the same tone as before.

"Nevermind. You, missy, are coming with me." The thief's smile chilled Mika to the bone.

"Why?" Mika asked, his voice failing to keep it's previous confidence.

"I like you, you don't take crap from anybody." The statement, coming from the thief, was so blunt and unexpected Mika wasn't sure his previous conclusions were entirely true.

"T-thanks, I guess?" Mika didn't know what he was in for, but at least this thief seemed to be an okay companion.

"Are you ever going to tell me you're name?" Mika asked after they reached the second In-Between on the thief's apparent list. It was a smallish In-Between, the locals called it Pointless. Funny right? So when anyone comes through and asks where they are, the locals can say "pointless". It was pretty funny if you asked the thief, but not to Mika. Apparently, however, they were there for the group of thieves that the thief answered to.

"I hadn't?" The thief asked, looking back at Mika over his shoulder. He had his goggles off now, in the middle of the towns sad excuse for a main street. They were a warm green, and they sparkled with amusement constantly. Unlike everything else in this god-forsaken world, at least his eyes held some life.
