2nd part of The Selection one-shot. Three-shot, really.
It had been about a week and Prince Mikaela, wait, shit, he's Mika, had visited me a ton. Probably a shit load more than anyone else. I was sitting under a tree as I watched the Queen's brothers family play around and watched as one of them tugged on Mika's shirt to get his attention. I smiled as he bent over to the little boy with ember colored hair.
I decided now would be a good time to talk to the queen. As I walked over, she noticed and smiled at me. I bowed as I got near, and waited for her to motion for me to sit down. She made a small motion of her hand, waving to the empty chair beside her.
"Are you well, Your Majesty?" I asked, trying to keep my tone light. Her smile broke as a giggle came out, and then she composed herself again.
"Oh, my boy, yes. Forgive me, you were blushing so hard there for a moment, it rather reminded me of Mika when we first introduced him to the princess of France." She paused looking off into the distance, which rather looked like an iris bouquet, before turning back to me. "My name is Krul to you, sweetie." She smiled fondly at me, and inclined her head to the side. I saw what she was looking for, the king.
"Do you like my son?" She asked, tone guarded. I blushed much brighter than before, turning my face just so, so it looked like I was admiring the marigolds next to me.
"Yes, he is very considerate, and I believe him to have a kind heart." I answered, hoping to God I didn't say anything wrong.
I watched as the queen's brother strolled over.
"Hello, so you must be Yuu." He said, sticking out his hand. "I'm Asura Tepes, the Queen's brother." He toothily smiled. I smiled demurely back, folding my hands and placing them in my lap respectfully.
"Yes, I'm Yuu, very nice to meet you, uh......what do I call you?" I asked after a full minute of struggling to find something to call him.
"Daddy." He said, and upon seeing my reaction, burst out laughing. "Nah, just messing with ya kid. Just call me Asura." By that point, I had stopped choking on my water, it had been a bad choice to drink from the cup before he spoke.
"Asura!" The queen scolded, hitting him a little hard on the arm. "You have a wife! Go play sugar daddy with her!" She huffed, and as he scurried off, he winked at me, and started immediately running after one of his kids.
"I'm very sorry for that comment, he's a little.......peculiar." The queen apologized, but I shook my head.
"No, I can handle being joked around with, but I just wasn't ready for that. I'll be ready next time though." And in an act of daring, I winked at her, and thank God she laughed.
"I must say, some of the candidates here are ever so bland. I'm glad there's at least one strong-willed candidate here." Krul said side-handedly.
"Really? I find Yoichi to be quite a soothing presence." I replied, spotting Yoichi sitting near a pink-haired guard. It looked like he was speaking to the guard, but I brushed that off as just being regular old friendly neighborhood Yoichi.
"Oh?" Krul said, glancing the way I was looking. "Oh, him. Yes, he is quite soothing and easy to get along with. He'll throw in an occasional joke now and then which I must admit did surprise me, but I do find him to be a good confidant if my son should need one." I nodded as she talked agreeing with all those things. As she finished, a girl approached, and I nodded to the queen.
"I enjoyed this conversation. I hope we can have another." I said, bowing, and the queen winked at me when I came back up.
"I do as well, now go on and have some fun." She said, and turned her attention to the brown haired girl.
"How do you do, Akane?" The queen asked as I wandered away. I went right for Yoichi, seeing as he was pretty alone.
"Hi, Yoichi, are you enjoying the party?" I asked, greeting him. He gave me a small tight smile, immediately alerting me that something was not right.
"Yes, and don't ask me to move. I'm trying to get a tan." He said tightly. I tilted my head, but offered him a smile.
"Alright, just don't burn yourself." I politely bowed my head the guard, and I noticed the name on his nametag. 'Kimizuki', and continued on my way.

A couple of weeks after the party, Mika narrowed it down to six. Me, Yoichi, Akane, Mitsuba, Narumi, and Rika were left. I was woken very early a couple of mornings after that. My first thought was that Shinya, Guren, or Shinoa was dead. My heart ached.
"What's going on?" I asked Salt, my head butler. He shook his head.
"I musn't say, but just know that nobody died today, Yuu." He quipped, pulling me into a gray suit.
"Now go. You must be perfect. Don't do any unnecessary things, Yuu." My second butler Daimon instructed. I sniffed. I was so confused. Nobody dies today?
"We're sorry, Yuu. Our orders came from very high up. We had no choice. Just remember that." My third butler, Nino, said tightly, and with that, they pushed me out of my room, where my guard lead me to the main hall. The rest of the Elite were there, but Yoichi was missing.
The doors opened slowly, and we were paraded outside, single file, guards surrounding us, as the crowd went wild, throwing flowers at our feet. I was lead to a seat in the front row, and the stage set up in front had a pair of shackles and a post.
"This is what happens to people who go against our great country's leaders, and who betray the trust of our dear heir, Prince Mikaela." A man with a black hood yells out across the now quiet crowd. And then, Yoichi and that guard come out, both looking ragged. Both with clear love for each other in their eyes.
And it all makes sense, how Yoichi always had odd habits. How he was somehow always sitting next to that guard. How that guard was so friendly and in places Yoichi was supposed to be.
As the lashes started, I cried. I didn't want this for him, and so I did something about it. I raced up to the stage, screaming his name, both their names.
A guard came and dragged me back. I was sent to my room, and I sent my butlers away, wanting to stir in silence.

I cried for a long time, until Mika came in.
"Are you okay, Yuu-chan?" He asked worriedly. I shrugged.
"A hug would make it better somewhat. A kiss much better." I replied, rubbing my eyes as he wrapped his arms around me.
"How about both?" He whispered in my ear before taking my lips into his.
"Thank you for not killing them. I'm grateful. I just was so sad. He deserves everything." I said when he pulled back.
"You're just lucky none of the camera's caught it. If they did, you'd be in trouble. But as far as they're concerned, it never happened." Mika smiled down at me. I shrugged.
"Kiss me again?" I asked. He smiled.
"Of course, princess." And he did.
