The Dog was staring at me once again as I came out of the kitchen. I was carrying a bowl of cooked hamburger for The Dog and an actual hamburger for me.

He gave me another droll stare as if to say 'Seriously man, giving in to that cliche? Dude, how low have you gotten?'

I shook my head, placing the bowl down.

"Not a word, dog."

"Woof." He barked. Now it was on.

"You din't just do that, bitch." I said in a high pitched voice, mimicking how Shinoa did it whenever someone said something she didn't like.

The Dog was silent, but just as I got up to sit at the couch I heard this strange sound behind me.

It was almost laughter. If it was a human I bet it would be laughter. After a second, I laughed too. We both probably knew how ridiculous I sounded at that point.

We spent a few hours just watching different movies. Me and The Dog. After the fourth or third one, I don't know, I thought it'd be time to go to bed.

The Dog noticed the look on my face and padded over to the movie cabinet. It started rubbing it's nose against the latch. I thought this was incredibly perplexing until the latch opened. The Dog was smart.

It stared at the shelves for a while, until it picked out a movie I held very dear. The movie it prodded out of the cabinet with it's nose. It may not seem it, but it had been Yuu's favorite movie. We'd watched it the night before-. No. Don't go there.

And then it hit me. How much I wanted him to be here. Sitting next to me. How much I wanted to run my hands through his hair. I closed my eyes.

How much I wanted him to hold me. How much I wanted to talk to him. How much I wanted to tell him those four tiny words I'd been way too wimpy to say before he'd died. How much I wanted to kiss him. How much I wanted him to kiss back even if I did.

"I love you, Yuu-chan." I whispered.

I stayed that way for a minute, eyes closed, imagining all the things that could never be reality.

I felt something soft and weighty in my lap, snapping me out of my thoughts. I was looking straight ahead, at the wall. No, it couldn't be. One part of my mind screamed. It could be. The other part whispered.

My eyes hit black hair as they traveled down, and eventually smooth, soft, tan skin. And lastly, green eyes. Ones I hadn't seen in years. They sparkled with devious intent, something I couldn't quite decipher, and pure, unrequited, happiness.

"Hey, Mika. I'm apparently The Dog now." Yuu said, winking. His voice was firm, steady, calming. I almost didn't catch what he said. Yuu kept nodding encouragingly, and I could feel my face rearrange itself to match my emotion. Surprise. Still happiness and love, but mostly surprise.

"The Dog.....is Yuu?" I asked, still smooth as fuck. Heh. He didn't even catch it. Yuu nodded, starting to laugh. He brought his arm up, and he touched my chin, and then up to my hair. My body relaxed visibly with every touch. His smile softened, and so did his eyes. They no longer held the devious glint. The only emotions in his eyes were sadness and the one I couldn't name.

"Don't think I didn't catch that name joke, asshole." Yuu muttered, still smiling. I shook my head.

"Too late now, you didn't pounce on it as soon as I said it." I said, bringing my hand up to where his was laced through mine. I laid it on top of his, and brought it back down to touch my cheek. I closed my eyes as I did this.

I felt Yuu shift. I didn't want this to end. I finally had him back. Please don't let this be a dream.

"It's not a dream." Yuu murmured. He sounded close. Very close.

My eyes flew open at the feel of a pair of perfectly formed lips met mine. I felt Yuu's hand still cupping my cheek, and the other went to tangle itself somewhere in my hair. I immediately leaned into the kiss, returning everything he gave me. We were both being nothing but gentle, afraid this illusion would break and we'd be left with nothing. He tasted like chocolate chip ice cream, but a thousand times better. Hmm. Maybe those cartons of self-loathing had payed off in a big way.

Then his tongue swiped my bottom lip. I could tell he was begging for it. I opened it, and my eyes flew open at the all new sensation.

After a moment of tongue warfare (A/N: I love that phrase.), we broke apart.

"Is this the part where I tell you I love you, Mika?" Yuu asked, leaning against, me. I laughed quietly.

"I thought you were supposed to do that before the kiss, if Wikipedia's right, of course." I responded. He hummed at that.

"How are you a dog?" I asked after  a minute. He shrugged.

"Hell if I know."

"I wanted to tell you I loved you since weeks before that day." I confessed. He looked up at me.

"I know."

"How...?"

"You were pretty obvious." He shrugged again.

"How?"

"The day before I got hit by a car you murmured love and then Yuu-chan. I got it then, and I wanted to kiss you, but it wasn't right doing that without your permission. Plus I'd have been embarrassed if I was caught." Yuu explained.

"You should've just done it." I sighed.

"But I didn't have your approval."

"That didn't stop you just now."

"We're just out of order, now aren't we?" He replied after a moment. And then his mouth was back on mine.

Not that I'm complaining, of course.
