~Shadow's P.O.V~
"Shadow! It's time to get up or you'll be late for school!" Shadow's ears twitched as he heard Gerald's voice downstairs.
"Ugh, I wish it was the weekend already..." He hid himself under the covers of his bed, but he kept his eyes open. He almost growled as he heard steps coming up the stairs.
"Shadow, you have to get up sooner or later," Maria's voice was soft but still firm. Shadow threw his covers off him, sitting up on the bed.
"You shouldn't really be the one to boss me around, you're only in 7th, being a big brother to you isn't exactly easy," Shadow looked around his room, his tail thumping on the bed behind him.
"I know, but I'm just following Dad's orders," Maria walked over to Shadow's bed and sat down beside him. "What's wrong? You never seem to want to go to school anymore. You were so excited to go to school now that you're almost done with it, now you don't wanna go at all. Is something bothering you?"
"It's nothing bothering me, if you don't count teachers as a problem," Shadow fell back onto the pillow, putting his arms above his head. "They get really irritating, and the only thing that's keeping me sane is knowing you're in the school now with me."
"I know, but it seems like something is really getting to you lately, you have a much bigger attitude now," Maria's eyes filled with worry.
Shadow shook his head. "Maria, I just..." He sighed. "Whatever, forget it. I'm gonna get up."
"Hurry, Dad's upset enough as is," Maria got up and walked out of the room, leaving the door open a crack. Shadow gave a sigh, sitting up and swinging his legs out of his bed. He got up and picked his gloves up off his dresser, slipping them on and cuffing the gold rings into place on his wrist. He pulled a black and red striped hoodie out of his closet and slipped it on, shoving the sleeve ends under his rings. He left the hood down, cause he didn't like the feeling of his quills being trapped down in a shirt and being a mess when he takes it down. He pulled on a pair of shorts that only came down to his knees and slipped on his shoes. He grabbed his backpack and ran downstairs.
"There you are!" Maria pulled a small backpack onto her back. "Do you want anything before we go?"
"I'm fine, let's just go," Shadow grabbed Maria's hand and ran out the door.

"Good to know we weren't the only ones late getting here," Maria smiled as she walked with Shadow to the bus stop. There were some other students like Blaze and Marine that were also late getting to the stop, but once they arrived they all jumped into conversation. Shadow mostly kept quietly while he let Maria talk with the other girls. Just a few minutes passed and the bus arrived, and as normal Shadow was the first kid on the bus. The other girls let Maria follow him.
Shadow ran back to his seat and threw his stuff down, pushing it over to the window or on the floor so he could sit down. Maria sat down in the seat next to him with Rouge. Most of the other girls sat upfront or in the back seats. Shadow looked out the window as the bus started moving again. He set his backpack up against the wall of the bus and pulled his phone out of one of the pockets. The bus stopped again and Amy leapt to the back seats to sit with Cream and Cheese. Shadow looked up to the front of the bus to see who'd be getting on next.
"Oh! Shadow, by the way," Amy got up to talk to Shadow. "There's a new kid gonna be getting on soon, everyone keeps saying his stop should be before we get to the school, so keep an eye out if you wanna meet him." Amy leapt back to talk with Cream. Shadow's ears twitched. It's been a while since the school got a new student, he thought. I wonder where he's from?
Now's when Shadow started getting really annoyed; he hated talking to people but they talked to him anyways. Rouge piped up from her conversation and she looked over to him, then she started talking. "Hey Shadow, how do you think you'll get along with the new kid?"
"That depends on who he is, where he comes from and how he acts around people like me," Shadow shot Rouge a glare, as a hint that he didn't want to be spoken to. Rouge nodded slowly, and turned back to talk to Maria. The two began to whisper, so Shadow almost instantly knew they were talking about him. It was normal for Maria to talk about him, but she was one of the loudest kids on the bus, if Amy and Cream weren't loud enough. It was strange to see Maria whispering for once, especially to that traitorous bat.
Shadow's ears twitched as he looked up to the front of the bus; this was the last stop before they reached the school. His ears perked up as the new kid stepped up beside the bus driver. He moved out of the way so the other kids could get to their seats. His fur was a bright sapphire blue and skin was showing on his arms and on his chest; he was only wearing a zip-up jacket so it was easy to see most of that. His eyes were a bright emerald green, but his skin was a dark pale. Shadow hid back down in his seat as the new kid came to the back seats of the bus. Shadow's cheeks turned a light shade of pink; he wasn't already taking a liking to this guy now was he?
Shadow went back to playing on his phone as the new kid looked for places to sit. Everyone offered to sit with him, but he declined most from what Shadow heard. The new kid perked his ears as he reached Shadow's seat.
"Hey, do you mind if I sit here for today?" Shadow looked up to the new kid.
"Um... Sure?" The new kid smiled, sitting down beside Shadow. The both of them sat in silence for a while, Shadow played on his phone most of the time while the new kid only sat in silence. He soon sighed and looked over at Shadow.
"Sorry if this was kind of a sudden meeting, I've heard some rumors of people saying you don't really like many people."
"It's fine, you seem like my kind of person, you've managed to keep your mouth shut like I've done," Shadow looked over to the new kid, his ears twitching.
The new kid surprisingly chuckled; anyone else would've been offended by Shadow saying something like that. "Well, anyways, I never really properly introduced myself. My name's Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog."
Shadow's ears perked, and he gave a small sigh. "My name's Shadow. It's nice to meet you."
Sonic smiled. He half jumped when the bus stopped at the school, and Shadow looked out the window.
"UGH. I wish I didn't have to come to school today," He groaned, leaning back in the seat.
"You not a real fan of the school?"
"Not exactly. It's just..." Shadow tried to fight back to tears at his next thought.
Sonic noticed this and moved a bit closer to him, holding his hand. This only made the blush on Shadow's face grow a darker shade of red. He moved his hand so he could hold Sonic's, and suddenly he felt a lot better.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Sonic's voice was soft, Shadow could tell Sonic wanted to help him.
"It's really nothing anyone needs to worry about, except for my 'sister,' as I like to call her." Shadow pointed over to Maria, who was still engaged in conversation with Rouge.
"Huh, that's something you don't see very often." Shadow rose an eyebrow in confusion. Sonic flicked his ears. "I mean, a human being siblings with a hedgehog."
"Well, we aren't completely siblings..." Shadow rubbed his arm in embarrassment, tightening his grip on Sonic's hand. "I was just created, not exactly 'made' like she was."
"Created?"
"By Dr. Gerald Robotnik, he's Maria's father..."
"He should count as yours too if you count her as a sister."
"We're more like step siblings... or half siblings."
"Do you like thinking of Maria as your sister?"
"Of course! She's one of the most important things to me."
"I can understand that, I still have my sister and my brother, they're only a few years younger than me."
"Maria's only 3 years younger than what I am." The bus driver called that everyone could go to their classes, and everyone grabbed their things and started leaving the bus. Sonic and Shadow grabbed their things and waited for everyone else to leave, and they managed to keeping holding onto the other's hand.
"Oh, by the way," Sonic held tighter onto Shadow's hand as they walked off the bus. "Would you mind showing me around the school? Everyone knows I need someone to show me around so most of the classes are cancelled."
Shadow smirked slightly. "I'd be happy to show you around. If you really want to run around the whole school that is." Sonic and Shadow both chuckled at this, walking off into the school together.
