Part 26: Epilogue

~Shadow's P.O.V~

It had been a long time since Sonic and Shadow had gotten out of school. It seemed like it was just yesterday they had met and got together the first day of Sonic's arrival. In reality, the previous year, they had graduated college, and could finally live peacefully. Well, almost peacefully. Sonic was pregnant with one more child, and they weren't completely sure if that was the last, but Shadow was only sure of a couple things.
He sat outside on their front porch, thinking hard to himself. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black box. He opened it and started at the ring carefully placed inside. He had waited too long for this moment, and of course he was excited, but he was afraid as well. He always had been. He sighed and shut the box, putting it back in his pocket. He knew that most of his friends were down at the park around this time, and that's exactly where he was planning to go. He walked back in the house and tapped Sonic on the shoulder.
Sonic flicked his ear and turned to look at him. "What is it?"
"Well..." Shadow scratched the back of his head and tried to think of how to word the situation. "We've been having a hard time with the kids lately, so... I thought we deserved a day off to maybe go to the park?" He smiled nervously, with a little bit of blush over his cheeks.
Sonic chuckled. "Well, we can trust Strapped with watching over everyone else, I guess." He kissed Shadow lightly on the cheek. "Give me a minute to grab a jacket, it's kind of cold outside." He ran upstairs to their room.
Strapped was running around the living room with Flash, as they were playing some sort of game.
"Alright, enough you two!" Shadow made them freeze when he spoke. "Strapped, your mother and I are going out for a while. You're in charge. If we come back and this house is trashed, your ass will be next."
Strapped laughed. "Alright, I'll make sure nobody destroys anything!" She glared at Flash. "Ya hear that, Flashy? Don't destroy anything like you did last time, or it's gonna be your fault when we get in trouble.
"You're the one that threw the hammer, and Nina was the one that smashed the vase! I just stood around trying to fight you guys away from my glass statuettes!" Flash growled at her.
"ENOUGH!" The both of them shrunk back at Shadow's outburst. "All of you, go to your rooms!" Everyone was in the room when they heard that, and they all sighed as they walked back upstairs to their rooms and shut the doors. Sonic walked back downstairs past them and slipped on his blue jacket.
"Alright, we can leave them," Sonic chuckled as he said that. "They start getting on your nerves?"
"Yeah, only a little."
"A little? I heard you tell Strapped and Flash off."
"They're the ones to worry about; they're the oldest."
"True, anyways, let's go." Sonic held Shadow's hand as they walked out the door and went off to the park.

The two strolled around for a while at the park, and played with some of their friends as they were there, but Shadow finally stopped both of them after a while.
Sonic perked his ears in confusion. "You alright?"
Shadow smiled, his cheeks turning bright red. "I'm perfectly fine. But, Sonic, there's something important I have to ask you."
Sonic's ears fell only a little, and he only imagined several stares from their friends across the place. "W-What is it?"
Shadow sighed, and his face lit up brighter with embarrassment. He shut his eyes and fell to one knee on the ground. He opened them again as he pulled the black box out of his pocket. "Sonic the Hedgehog..."
Sonic's face lit up bright red as Shadow opened the box and held it up to him to reveal the ring inside. "...Will you marry me?"
A smile slowly crossed Sonic's face, a tears of joy rolled down his cheeks. He shut his eyes and let out small sobs of happiness. He finally managed to speak after a short while. "For you, anything... Yes, I will!"
Tears fell down Shadow's face as well as he stood up. He took the ring out of the box and carefully put it over Sonic's finger. Sonic almost fully leapt forward and wrapped his arms tightly around Shadow. He pressed his lips gently to the other's, and they just held themselves together for a moment. They could easily hear the excitement of the others scattered over the grass plain. Shadow still seemed to tremble out of fear, and that just let more tears fall. Sonic finally pulled away and smiled.
Shadow sighed. "In all honesty, I was really scared having to do that."
Sonic kept his smile. "You were afraid I'd decline, weren't you?"
Shadow sighed and nodded. "I know you wouldn't have..."
"Of course I wouldn't have!" Sonic put his hands to Shadow's shoulders. "We've already had five children, and we're still waiting for another. We lived together when we first met, and we had sex as well. We've been through too much together, and I'd never want to give that up." He smiled brighter than he ever had before as he let several more tears fall. "I love you."
Shadow smiled and kissed Sonic lightly. "I love you too." Shadow took Sonic's hand, and the two began walking home again.
