Chapter 23, Dan

  "She gave me the weirdest look!" Phil shouts.

  "I never mentioned you, so I'm sure she's surprised. I think she's scared of you." I tell him sheepishly. "She kept looking at the door and she just seemed really uneasy."

  "Why didn't you ever tell her? And how am I scary?"

  "I don't know. But just, be nice. Don't be too nice, because like I said, I think she's scared of you. So, just be funny. Be yourself just, tone it down I guess."

  "Okay. But you are right,"

  "Huh?"

  "She's real pretty. I like the way her hair frames her face and her eyes are bright, and her nose is adorable."

  "Hey," I growl. "She's mine."

  "Woah, calm down! I was just saying. You picked a good one." I glare at him, and eventually he gets up and goes to bed. I lie down on the couch, and close my eyes. I'm almost asleep, when I hear a scream that's enough to turn my blood to ice. The it hits me.

     Chloe.

  I spring off the couch in my Capri's and baggy shirt, and jog to my bedroom.

     I open the door, and see her sitting against the headboard, shaking. Her knees are pulled up to her chest, her arms between her knees and her torso. Her face buried in her hands, and I realize she's crying. I sit down next to her and touch her shoulder. She jumps, looks up, and I pull her in close. She sobs into me.

  "I s-saw h-him," she says between hiccups.

  "Phil?"

  "N-no, him. H-he was..." her voice trails off and she grips my t-shirt tighter. Her sobs become more violent.

  "Chloe," I say softly and she looks at me with glossy blue eyes, and a red puffy face. "Who is 'he'?" She shakes her head and hugs me again.

  "I can't say," she manages, still gripping my shirt.  "It'll scare you," she finishes.

  "I use Tumblr Chloe, you can tell me," I chuckle.

     So she does.
