"What happened?" I ask, noticing Chloe's tears as I'm walking her back to the car.
"He broke the promise," she says quietly. I go to hug her, but she pulls away.
At her house, she heads straight for her room.
"You can stay over again, if you want," she says before closing her door. I set up the sofa-sleeper before walking to her room and knocking on her door.
  "Chloe? Can I come in?"
"Mmm." I take that as a 'yes' and slowly open the door. She's in her duet, all snuggled up, tears rolling down her cheeks, I walk over to the bed and sit down in a chair nearby. I hold her hand, and stroke her arm.
"I love you Chloe," I whisper. She nods, more tears falling freely down her cheeks. "I'm going to let you sleep okay?  You look like you want to be alone for a while," I offer. She nods and I kiss her cheek before standing up and quietly exiting the room.
I stroll out to the lounge where I spend until 1:34am on the internet. Whoops. I don't remember falling asleep, but I'm awaken by shrieks. I sit up, disoriented. I look around and realize I'm at Chloe's, and that she's the one screaming. I jog to her bedroom and open the door.
She's thrashing around, still screaming and clearly still in her nightmare. I rush over to her bed and grab ahold of her shoulders to hold her down. She opens her eyes wide, and starts hitting me and struggling in a blind panic.
"Chloe! It's okay it's me, Dan! It's okay!" I semi-yell, eventually calming her down enough to see tears falling from her eyes.
"You're alive..." she whispers finally. I hug her and try to keep her as close to me as possible to stop the violent shaking.  "It seemed so real. You were gone, and it was so realistic. I was scared I'd lost you," she gasps.
"It wasn't real, I'm fine. I promise, it's okay. It wasn't real," I soothe, rubbing her back.
