"What happened?" I demand after I called Ash's mom to tell her that I have her son and that we are going to the hospital.
"A tall guy with black hair beat us up. We think he broke Ash's leg and he punched me in the nose. He knows our story, and the he said things that he couldn't possibly have known, he told me we should have died too," Jackson replies while holding his still bleeding nose. I had a way better day than he did.
"Oh, Jack, I'm so sorry," I start but stop when I see him shaking his head. Ash just looks like he's trying to focus on anything but his leg, and I don't blame him.
Once I get home with Jack I tell Ashley what happened to Jack.
"Oh my god! I knew this would happen! But I was more expecting it to be you," she gasps. I'm a little insulted but I know that she has a point.
"I know, but what do we do? We can't take him out, he just started," I argue.
"We need to tell authorities," she returns.
"Okay, well, I'm going to go check on him," I say as I head upstairs. I walk into his room and see him sitting on the far side of the bed.
"Jack?" I ask cautiously. He flinches, and I walk over to that side of the bed slowly, and regret it immediately.
I see his right hand holding a knife, and his left wrist bleeding. He cut himself.
I rush over to him and drag him by the arm to the bathroom. I clean the blood off and have him apply pressure to it to make it stop bleeding. It slows down enough that I can put some gauze and medical tape over it. I eventually have to stop, because tears are blurring my vision. I look at his leaking grey eyes, and he looks empty.
"I-I thought that if you do it, and it helps, then maybe it would help me," he says, ever so softly. I hold him tight as I sob. He hesitates at first, but eventually hugs me back.
"Jackson, you promised," I mumble. He sobs into my arms.
I bring him back to his room and take the knife as I leave him on his bed. I stop in my room and grab my coat, before walking outside and to the nearest hardware store.
"Hey, can you show me to where the screws are?" I hear a very articulate male voice ask. I turn around to find a guy with a brown fringe, and beautiful brown eyes.
"Well the thing is, I'm a little lost myself. If I help you find the screws, will you help me find the rope?" I reply. I'm lost in this store and maybe he could help. He flashes a beautiful smile, and I see a single dimple on his left cheek.
"I'm Dan," he states.
