Note #34

A bird that has been made into a pet will spend its entire life living in a cage. It'll be let out and put back in when the owner decides, when and what it eats will be chosen by the owner, when it sleeps the owner will be the one who set it's bed time. No matter what the bird will be instructed by the owner and eventually..the bird will give in. It'll lose its identity and become what the owner wanted it to be all along, a mindless drone living it's life as entertainment or company of someone it didn't really choose to be with.
Now imagine, one day the owner looks at the bird and decides it should be set free and so they take the bird and release it back into the wild after living in captivity. At first the bird will be excited and fly away as soon as it's released, but soon the bird will realize it doesn't know what to do or where to go, the bird will realize it doesn't even have anyone and is just alone and lost. The bird thought it was ready to be on its own in the wild, but it wasn't..the bird no longer belonged there, it was too late for the bird because it was already so used to living it's life being told what to do.
Birds can be beautiful, but once one is broken it's too late to fix it. I'm scared that I'm a bird, I'm scared that one day it'll be too late for me, I'm scared that one day I'll get to choose between being a bird who may get free too late or the alternative of being free and I won't make the right choice.
