A Dare

Riley's POV

Logan drove Maya back to mine, she was stiff as ever. She walked in as did he, and I was already on the sofa watching TV, waiting for Maya and Josh to come back, so I could hear how amazing it went.  I stood up as soon as the door opened and saw her red puffy eyes. 

"Maya? Oh my god, what happened? Where's Josh? Loga-?" I asked, extremely worried, holding her arms, she was frozen.

"He's in the hospital Riley." He said, his eyes looked the same as hers but only by a fraction.

"Come on, Maya, " I said, delicately guiding her to the bathroom. "Let's run you a nice late night bath, ok?" I looked back at Logan, "wait 20 minutes." I mouthed to him and he nodded.

I ran the bath for her and undressed her, guiding her in the bath. She hugged her knees. She looked so torn and so..- Broken. She looked as if she had no fight left in her. I knelt down beside her and kissed her on the head. "Sweetie, look at me, " and she did so, blinking back tears already, " I know roads a rough, and torn down. But we'll find a clear path. It'll get easier, I pinky promise you ok?" I said holding out my pinky to her, and she wrapped her pinky around mine and gave me a weak smile. 

"Thank you." She said, barely.

I stood up and rolled up my sleeves. Delicately washing her hair with the shampoo then conditioner. She tilted her head forward, relaxing it on her knees. She closed her eyes so no shampoo got in her eyes.

After I was done I dried my hand with a towel, "You relax a little ok? I'll come back in a couple minutes, ok?" She very lightly nodded her head.

I quickly walked back to Logan, who was on the phone. He was talking, well not talking, just answering with simple answers, "yes, no, ok, of course." And he hung up.

"Come on Riley, we need to the hospital NOW, grab Maya." He said putting his jacket back on.

"Are you kidding? No she can't g-"

"She told me if anything were to happen I should tell her."

"No Logan."

"She also said that when you say that, I need to get her myself." He said, jogging to the bathroom.

"OK! Fine I'll get her I'll get her." 

"Hurry we need to be there asap."

"Ok well, you wake up Auggie." Just carry him to the car, we'll wake him in the hospital, it's mom and dad's date night-"

"Really?" He asked. 

"It was last minute, we were going to have Maya's party like we do every year but once Maya told them she was doing something they just went on a date-, I dunno dude just hurry."

I quickly but slowly got Maya out of the bath and dressed but properly lotioned. We all got in the car, I made sure both Auggie and Maya were strapped in the back.

"So what actually happened?" I said quietly, but loud enough for him to hear. I slowly turned on the radio, loud enough to block out our quiet talk, yet quiet enough to not wake Auggie. I texted mom and dad what was going on as he started talking.

"Well, at Mazee's, most of the games kept breaking down so Josh had to keep going to do the break room and fix it. I don't know, there must've been a faulty wire or something because when they were playing Pac-man, it stopped working again and Josh said to Maya that he'd make this up to her and kissed her on the forehead and left but she shouted back that she was having a perfect time anyway. Anyway, when he tried fixing it but  a huge fire started, he rushed both of us out for safety but claimed he left something inside and by this time I was already on the phone to the fire men,the second floor.. it just blew up and he was on the ground floor and he got trapped. Maya was trying to run inside but obviously I held her back, screaming you can't but she didn't want anything to happen to him-"
