A Dare

Maya's POV

My heart was racing. I didn't know what to expect. Every red light we stopped I was calm for like 2 seconds. I couldn't believe it. Josh could've killed himself because of what he did to me. But why? The messages he sent were different to what he was acting like.

The car finally stopped and so did the overflow of worry in my mind.

"You ready?" Riley asked me

"Not really but let's do this." I half smiled

We made our way to Riley's apartment and we went into Josh's room. No word of a lie, I had chills down my spine walking through the living room and the corridor because of the past scenes that happened in here.

We opened the door and I saw Josh laong in his bed. Mr and Mrs Matthews said that since the incident, pretty much all he's been doing is sleeping and a little bit of eating. He barely spoke and when he did, it was a yes/no answer.

"Uncle Josh?" Riley spoke quietly, sitting beside him on the bed, gently rubbing his arm, "it's me Riley with Maya." I saw his body flinch slightly as she said my name.

"Riley?" I went up tp her, "do you think it'd be ok if I could speak to him for a while... Alone?"

"Yeah sure," she smiled, getting up and leaving the room, quietly closing the door, not wanting to make a lot of sound. 

"Long time no see, Josh." I said, trying to quickly blink the rapid tears forming in my eyes. I sat beside him and moved his hair away from his eyes. He was so beautiful. "I've missed you, bub." I bit my lip and small tears prickled down my cheek. "Why is it that I want to punch so hard in the face but equally want to just kiss you so damn hard?" I laugh to myself.

I placed my hand on top of his, and he flinched again. "M- m- May- wait! Don't leave me.." He mumbled in his sleep.

"Josh??" I hesitantly spoke, "Josh, what's wrong?" 

He woke up, sitting up straight, gasping as if a ghost was chasing him in his sleep. "Josh. What happened? Are you ok?-" before I could finished he pulled me into a big tight hug and pecked my cheek and hugged me tighter.

"Maya?!" i said into my hair, relieved, "I had a horrible dream where we fell out over a really stupid mistake of mine and I lost you forever and you weren't speaking to me and I-"

"Josh." I cut him off, pulling him away from our hug and stood up, "It wasn't a dream.." 

"Oh." was all he could let out. "So, why are you here?"

"Shh!" I stopped him, "You don't get to ask the questions, I do! What! Were! You! Thinking?!" I slapped his arm, pausing between every word, "You idiot. You could've gotten yourself KILLED!"  

"I thought you out of all people would've been glad that I would've been gone." he said glumly looking down into his lap.

"What?! Are you crazy? Last time I checked, YOU were the one who kept reminding ME that 'everything was going to be ok' remember?" I choked on the last words as memories of that night came flooding back in. "Did you know that was my favourite day.. All of them were when I was with you. But now everytime I try and remember something, I have to look at it differently now."

"Maya. I've said sorry like a billion times, I-"

"Sorry can't fix something like this!"

"Well then can you please just tell me what can?!" He said getting up, revealing he was wearing his pyjama bottoms and nothing waist-up, he held my hands in his, making me look at him dead straight in the eyes. He looked dead. He looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks and was nearly gone. I hated to see him like this, I still loved him and cared for him but it can't be like that again.

"Josh..." I said, letting go and walking to the window, looking out on the view, trying to blink away tears that were quickly reappearing, "That's the worst part.. I don't know how and if things can go back to the way they were before." 

"Please Maya, please let me try and make it up to you." He begged, "You were the greatest thing that ever happened to me." 

"I don't know Josh, I need to go.. and think things through." I said wiping away my tears and left the room and went to Riley's room to say bye.

"He's awake and I think we'll be ok, maybe, I don't know but mom said I have to be home asap so I'm just going to..-"

"Maya who do you think I am if you honestly thought I believed that?" She came towards me, pulling me to sit beside her on the bay window

"Oh god, I can't keep anything past you. What gave it away?"

"First off, your mom never once ever texted you to be home 'asap'. Second, You've never once called it your 'home'. And hird, I can tell when my peaches is bruised and has been crying." She pulled me in, making my head lay on her shoulder as she rubbed my arm, "It's a sixth sense for me you know."

"Where would I be without my sweetie?" I ask, "I love you Riles."

"I love you too." she kissed the top of my head

"But I'm gonna have to go back to my house and think all of this through and think what I need to do." I say, getting up

"There's my fierce Amazon warrior." She smiled at me.

"Bye Riley!" I call back one last time as I leave her house.

I was in a real complicated situation, and I knew for a fact I wasn't going to get any sleep tonight because of these thoughts. Great thought.
