The dreams didn't stop like I had hoped they would. Instead I had two more; in each the beautiful lady Selene told me stories of wolves. I put it down to hearing my parents talk so much about werewolves lately. I didn't mention my dreams to any one again but when I was around Ronan and Forrest I felt a strong pull to tell them. But I stayed quiet each day when I was around them. Ronan had set our first day for Friday night he told me what to wear but wouldn't tell me where we were going. I was nervous, it was my first date with anyone and I couldn't believe I was going out with someone like Ronan. I still couldn't imagine why Ronan and Forrest seemed to like me.
Evie of course helped me get ready and pick out my dress. She put my outfit together, did my hair and my makeup and made sure I had everything I would need in my purse. I don't know what I would have done without her there to help me. She picked out a floral A-line dress that flared at the bottom and twirled perfectly.
I was ready by six o'clock and sat anxiously on the couch waiting for him to pick me up. My family constantly sent me knowing looks and I'm almost positive they were laughing about me behind my back. But I couldn't think about them, all I could think about was the boy about to pick me up. Ronan was at the door by six thirty on the dot just like he said he would be. I hurriedly introduced him to my parents and then we were out the door as quickly as possible. Ronan gave me his arm walking me to his car then opened my door and shut it for me when I slid in, he was being such a gentleman and it was putting me more on edge.
"So what are we doing?" I asked once he started driving.
"I want it to be a surprise," was all he would say. As we drove I took the time to look at Ronan discreetly, he was in jeans and a green dress shirt, and the sleeves were rolled up his arm showing off his defined muscles, he looked good. I tried no to stare but it was hard when he sat so close to me. "You look beautiful," Ronan said bringing me out of my revelry. I blushed deeply and murmured a thank you. We talked a little as we drove; we were going to the next town over so it wasn't a long drive. When we pulled up it was to a community center, I was puzzled as to why we would be at a community center. "Here we are," he got out of the car and came around to open my door.
"And where is here?" I asked as I climbed out with the help of his hand. I could hear faint music coming from the building.
"This my lovely lady is a contra dance." He guided me inside where a wave of lively country music flooded my ears. I looked over and saw a live band playing, there was a fiddle, a banjo, and a guitar; as they were playing people were dancing.
"What in the world is contra dancing?" I watched the people dancing with smiling faces; they looked like they were having fun. "I have no idea how to dance!" I squeaked out.
"Don't worry I'll show you and they explain everything. See that guy up there with the microphone?" I followed his pointing finger and nodded. "That's the caller he tells you what to do and when to do it." I watched for a minute as the dancers followed the caller's instructions, it was fascinating to watch. Ronan led me to a table where he paid and got us name tags. "Don't worry it's a lot of fun," He pulled me to a table where we dropped our things and watched the end of the dance. When the music ended we clapped for the band and the dancers went to get new partners breathless and laughing. "Well are you ready?" Ronan stood up and offered me his hand.
"I guess so!" I took his hand and he led me to the dance floor where we made two lines facing each other. The caller started teaching us the dance and Ronan and the other dancers helped guide me along. By the time the dance was actually ready to start I was feeling more confident. The musicians started the song and Ronan and I started the dance. We swung and promenaded went up and down the lines in time with the music. I wasn't a big dancer but this was one of the most fun things I had ever done. By the end of the first dance I was breathless and red faced.
