Tuesday morning I made sure I was looking my best so that I was ready for my date with Forrest after school; skinny jeans and a flowy, red blouse; comfortable but cute. On the way into school Evie kept glancing back at me and making kissy faces, I just rolled my eyes and looked out the window. Sometimes the best way to deal with my sister is ignoring her.

At school everyone seemed to be distracted, I asked several people if something was wrong but they changed the subject. All my friends looked to be on high alert, alert for what I wasn't sure. The day felt like it was dragging on slowly, I didn't want to sit in classes when I could be hanging out with Forrest. At lunch I sat with Forrest, York and Violet but none of them seemed to be in a talkative mood. They all ate silently only sometimes making eye contact with each other; finally I couldn't take it anymore. "Alright does someone want to tell me what is wrong with everyone today?" I blurted out. Everyone turned to look at me, eyes going wide.

"What do you mean?" Violet asked quizzically.

"I mean why is everyone so sullen and quiet? You all look worried about something," I told them honestly.

"I'm not worried about anything," York lied, a very obvious one.

"None of you are very good liars," I felt the need to inform them. I jumped when I felt a hand on my shoulder, I knew it was Forrest without even looking.

"It's nothing Emmaline," He brushed off. His hand trailed down my arm spreading goosebumps as he went. I tried not to look at him as he reached my hand and took it in his and interlocked our fingers. He brought our interlocked hands and rested them on his thigh, it was a very intimate action and I felt the blush creep up my face. No one seemed to notice as they had started up another conversation. I felt Forrest's thumb slowly start to rub across the back of my hand in little circles, the goose bumps from my arm spread across my whole body. I was having a hard time concentrating on anything with his hand in mine until finally the bell rang and lunch was over. Forrest stood pulling me up with him our fingers still tightly together, I tried to pull away but he didn't let me, "Let me walk you to class?" I nodded and followed him out of the cafeteria. Forrest dropped me of at Algebra 2, as I walked in I noticed Ronan saving me a seat.

"Good lunch?" He asked absentmindedly. He too seemed to be in the same sort of funk that the others were in, what was wrong with them all?

"It was fine," I said blushing at the thought of Forrest's hand in mine. "Yours?" He hummed as an answer. I wasn't getting anything out of anybody today.

I walked down the hall at the end of the day looking for Forrest; we were going on our date. Most people had already left so the halls were almost empty, I heard Forrest's voice drift towards me. But I stopped when I heard Ronan's voice mix with his.

"It's too dangerous! There is no way I'm letting you take her out of the pack limits." Ronan growled. I pressed my back against the lockers; they were talking down the next hall.

"Oh you won't let me? Do you seriously think I would let you stop me?" Forrest sounded on the verge of punching someone. "This is my date, my time with her and you can't dictate it." A loud clanging of medal made me jump. "Get your hands of me," Forrest's voice was low and rough. I was about to go out there and break them up when Ronan continued talking.

"Listen to me Forrest I don't care what you or anyone else says, I know she is my mate," There was that word again. "And I will not let you take her out of the perimeter where it is dangerous just for a date!" Ronan's voice was a deadly quiet, but it was filled with venom.

"Is that what this is about? You're jealous that I'm going on a date with her today?" I could almost see the sneer on Forrest's face. They were talking about me, why did they always seem to be talking about me? I heard a thud hit the floor and I wonder if Forrest had finally pushed Ronan off of him.
