Miles had walked me to English where I met Violet, who I told everything that had taken place in class and in the hall. She was mostly silent throughout the whole story and when I finished she took a moment before she spoke.
"I think," She said slowly. "That you have to be careful. Not just around Ronan but also possibly York."
"What do you mean?" I was confused by her response; she was friends with York too.
"I mean that both seemed to have taken an interest in you. I know that York is your friend but I also know that if you wanted he would take things further once you got to know each other a little bit better."
"But I've never even met Ronan before, I don't know why he was acting the way he was. Do you think he is dangerous?" I suddenly felt very concerned.
"No I don't think he is dangerous to you. But you just need to be careful."
"I don't understand!"
Violet sighed, "I know you don't and that it is going to be confusing maybe for a while. To be honest I'm not a hundred percent sure what is going on but I have a hunch. I have a feeling that eventually things will become clear." She sounded so cryptic I didn't even know what to ask next. "Ronan isn't actually such a bad guy; no matter how much my friends and I rag on him. Actually to tell you the truth I used to have a crush on him."
"You had a crush on him?" She nodded and I could tell she was embarrassed.
"Well that's all well and good for you. But I've never met the guy; he was talking as if he owned me. Nobody owns me." I made very clear. I hadn't liked the way Ronan had talked about me so possessively when I had never met him.
"I know, the guys around here have a bad habit of being very possessive when it comes to girls some times."
"Oh so their cave men?" Violet laughed at my choice of words.
"Yeah I guess you could call them that. Maybe you should meet Ronan." Violet suggested quietly as the teacher started class.
"Seriously? After the way he acted? I don't think so." I whispered. She shrugged and quietly said, "Just a suggestion."
York hadn't been in chemistry and it made me wonder if he was still in the principal's office. I was walking by myself down the hall when I heard Evie shout to me. I turned around and saw she was walking with Bea and Daphne; I swallowed, not really wanting to talk to Bea right now. I stopped and waited for them to catch up to me.
"Come eat lunch with us Emmy." Evie grabbed my arm and linked it through hers. I looked over at Bea and Daphne both giving me strange looks.
"Um..." I wasn't sure what to say, should I?
"Yeah Emmy come eat lunch with us," Bea told me, that strange look still in her eyes. "You can meet my brother Ronan." There was the reason I didn't want to eat lunch with them.
"Oh...I uh I'm not sure."
"Yeah come on Emmy it will be fun. We can get to know each other better before we hang out this weekend." Daphne encouraged me. Oh right, Evie and I were going over to Bea's house where Ronan also lived.
"About that," I began but Evie cut me off and started dragging me down the hall.
"Come on Emmy let's go eat lunch. We can talk about what we're going to do this weekend there." So I silently let Evie pull me along with Bea and Daphne following. When we got to the lunch room I nervously sat down at the table. Looking around I saw that York, Miles and Violet were sitting at their usual tables with their friends. All three were looking at me and whispering, I caught York's eye and he smiled and winked. I smiled and was about to wave over to them when something heavy dropped in the seat next to me. I looked over and saw Ronan staring at me intensely; I blushed and looked down at my food suddenly not very hungry any more. I foolishly felt butterflies in my stomach being around him; maybe it was just because he frightened me.
