Here We Go Again

"Here we go again," I sighed to myself as I looked in the bathroom mirror.

"Don't worry," I jumped at the voice behind me. When I looked at the door it was just my older sister, "Mom and dad said this was our last move until we are both graduated." I looked back at the mirror as she talked trying to figure out what to do with my massive lion's mane of curls.

"Yeah well we've heard that one before Evie."  I heard her shut the door and come stand beside me. She also started playing with her auburn waves in the mirror; however her hair already looked perfect.

"Do you doubt our parents little sister?" Evie cracked a small smile.

"You know as well as I do Evie that our parents have never been able to stay in one place for very long. It's not their fault it's just the way they are." I gave a final sigh and let go of my hair giving up.

"Here let me braid it," Evie got behind me as she started to French braid my hair to the side. My sister and I have been best friends since we were little; it's hard not to be when you move around so much.

"You're right, it's not their fault, it's the job's fault," Evie caught my eye in the mirror. "But they did promise no more moves; don't worry Emmy I have a good feeling about this place."

I snorted, "Oh yeah? You have a good feeling about Endsbrooke Oregon, population 5,648? Sounds like a real charming place." Evie finished off my braid and swatted my shoulder.

"Hey! I'm perfectly seriously. I plan on staying right here until the end of high school and making the most of living in this charming town." Evie mocked me. I laughed and turned to face my sister and kiss her cheek. "I'll make you a deal my dear Emmaline." Evie said as she pushed me away and wiped her cheek.

"What kind of deal?" I looked at her skeptically. Just because I loved her, didn't mean I always trusted her. She was after all my older sister notorious for pulling my leg.

"If our house is completely unpacked by the end of the week you owe me a girl's night out." I scoffed.

"That has never happened before in our lives. If we are lucky then usually half the boxes get unpacked and the other half gets put in the attic." I was right, we never stayed in one place long enough to make unpacking everything worthwhile.

"Then you have nothing to fear." Evie said as she walked out the door.

"Why are you so sure?" I yelled after her. She popped her head back in the door way and smiled.

"Honestly I don't know I just really do have a good feeling about this place." And with that she was gone. "I sure hope you're right," I muttered under my breath. I looked back at my reflection in the mirror, my sister had, by some miracle, tamed my wild brown curls into a French braid that framed my face. I ran my hands along my new coral colored tank top and skinny jeans to get any invisible lent off.

"Evie, Emmy hurry yourselves up or you're going to be late for school!" Mom called up from the stairs. One last glance in the mirror told me that this was as good as it was going to get and I headed down stairs.

I grabbed an apple and ran out the door after Evie and my dad who was going to drive us to our first day of school. Evie beat me to the front seat of the car so I got stuck in the back.

"I'll be picking you girls up after school but in case something happens you can use your cell phones to call us," I rolled my eyes; it was the same every time we started at a new school.

"Oh is that what cell phones are for, I didn't realize they were for calling people, I just thought they were for show." I giggled at Evie's sarcastic response, dad just sighed and shook his head at her. "Don't worry dad, this isn't our first time doing this remember?" Evie told him.

"I know you have its just...my little girls are so grown up now." Looking through the rearview mirror I could see my dad's eyes grow moist. I looked quickly away out the window to hide my smile. My dad was such a softie; he said this every time he dropped us off at a new school.

"We will always be your little girls' dad, I love you." I said still not looking away from the window.

"I love you too dad." Evie echoed. I heard him sniff and quietly tell us he loved us too. My family was close maybe more close than most. My parents' job was a highly unusual one. They traveled all over the world researching mythological creatures. They would learn the myths and stories about the creatures that every region had from fairies, elves, and unicorns to vampires, Gollum's, and lycanthropes. They wrote books and papers on their research and spoke at major colleges and clubs all around the world. Their job took us everywhere; we had been to almost all fifty states and countries all across the globe. Because of all the traveling it makes it hard to make friends so my sister and I stick together with our parents.

"Well here we are." Dad said as he pulls up to a beautiful stone building. It was probably one of the prettiest high school campuses I had ever seen. It reminded me of a castle made of stone with lots of funny shaped windows. The sign read Endsbrooke High and students were making their way up the steps to the front doors. "Have a good day girls. Pay attention in class and make some new friends," dad called to us as we stepped out of the car. He drove off and we waved to him; Evie came to stand beside me as we looked up at the building.

"Are you ready?" She asked under her breathe. I looked at the students passing us most were staring obviously realizing we were new.

"As ready as I ever am," I replied. And together we walked up the stairs to our new lives.
