As agreed with Jean, he set a meeting with Awakusu-kai.

The tension in the air thickens as you step into the dimly lit room. The private lounge in one of Ikebukuro's high-end restaurants is quiet, except for the faint hum of conversation from distant patrons and the soft clinking of glasses. A hostess greets you. You exchange a few words then proceed to the private spot at the restaurant's end.

Two men seat near the far end of the room, their postures radiating authority. One is a tall, broad-shouldered man you recognize as one of the Awakusu-kai's top enforcers - Haruya Shiki. The other, sitting calmly on a low leather couch, is Mikiya Awakusu himself—the son of Dougen Awakusu, the legitimate heir of Awakusu-kai.

You walk forward with measured steps, keeping your expression neutral. This is not an everyday encounter—standing face-to-face with one of Tokyo's most powerful underworld figures demands composure.

Mikiya looks up as you enter, his sharp eyes scanning you from head to toe. His expression remains unreadable as he gestures for you to take the seat across from him.

"[F/N], I presume," he says, his voice low and deliberate. The weight of his presence fills the room, a quiet dominance cultivated over decades of wielding power. A stern and serious individual, despite his title, not everyone in the organization sees him as a competent leader. The inner circle gives an impression of loyalty but you keep in mind the rumor which could benefit you.

"Yes, [f/n]" you introduce yourself personally, meeting his gaze as you sit down, across from him. "Mikiya - thank you for agreeing to meet with me."

He nods slowly, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest of his chair. "You've stirred quite the ripple since your organization stepped into Ikebukuro. Not many outsiders dare to test the waters of our territory without... consequences."

You tilt your head slightly, acknowledging the implied threat without flinching. "I'm well aware of the risks. Our organization has shown from the very start that it has no interest in conflict with the Awakusu-kai. We respect the agreement, just like you do," you add, your look sharp. "Our business does not interfere with your interests."

Mikiya leans forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees as he studies you. The room feels even quieter now, the weight of his scrutiny pressing down like a physical force. "Respecting agreements is one thing," he says, his tone measured, "but respect is not always mutual. Your presence here, while controlled, has attracted attention. And not all of it is favorable."

Shiki, who has been silent so far, steps closer, his imposing figure cutting an intimidating shadow across the room. "There are concerns," he says evenly, "about how long you can maintain your position here without... disrupting the balance."

You keep your posture calm, but inside you're carefully weighing your words. Buying time means avoiding escalation, while also leaving no opening for them to suspect you know more than you should. "As said, we filled the void when it came to the distribution of illicit goods, if not us then someone else will, we follow the guidelines and monitor it," you explain, "as agreed you benefit from it like we benefit from allowing you operate in our territory, it's a good and fair business." You add, " Everyone knows we value and follow treaties, we will address any concerns beforehand," you say, your voice unwavering.

Shiki narrows his eyes slightly, his expression unreadable, but you catch the faintest flicker of acknowledgment in his gaze. He steps back, folding his arms, as if momentarily satisfied with your answer.

Mikiya leans back in his chair, his fingers drumming lightly against the armrest. "Fair business, yes. But fairness can be a fragile thing," he says slowly, his tone laced with subtle warning. "Especially when whispers suggest that the balance may be tilting—without our consent."

You meet his gaze head-on, suppressing the urge to bristle at his veiled accusation. Talking about hypocrisy. "We have no interest in tilting anything. Stability benefits us all. Like most good businesses, my organization thrives on structure, not chaos. If there's a concern, let's address it now before assumptions lead to misunderstandings."

Mikiya's lips curl into a faint smile, though his eyes remain as sharp as ever. "Direct and confident. I can appreciate that. But confidence doesn't change the reality of competition. New players in the game have a tendency to test limits."

Your heart beats faster at his words, but you force yourself to remain calm. He's fishing for a reaction, but you won't give him one. Instead, you nod thoughtfully. "Competition is inevitable in this line of work. What matters is how it's handled. We've shown from the start that we prioritize cooperation over conflict. If there's anything specific you'd like us to address, we're open to discussion." You stay polite but sharp, focusing on communication and conflict resolution while avoiding a defensive and submissive stance.

Shiki interjects, his deep voice cutting through the room. "It's not just competition. There's chatter about rogue elements—groups operating without oversight. If they're acting in your name, it's your responsibility to rein them in."

You shake your head slightly, your voice firm but measured. "Nothing of the sort would come from us. We're meticulous about who we work with and how we operate. If someone is using our name, they're doing so without authorization." You reply. From Shiki's bold statement you conclude they might attempt to stir mistrust within your own organization and distract you by misleading you to search for traitors within your own ranks.

Mikiya studies you in silence for a moment, his fingers stilling on the armrest. "Good," he says finally, his tone clipped. "Then you won't mind assisting us in identifying these elements. If there's truth to the rumors, we'll need to act swiftly to protect our mutual interests."

You incline your head, hiding your unease. "Of course. Stability is in everyone's best interest. Even so, do not assume we have ulterior motives and come at us with such accusations based on plain rumors," you say seriously. You will not take any disrespect. The room falls quiet again, the tension lingering as both men assess your words. Shiki steps back, his imposing presence no less palpable, while Mikiya's gaze remains fixed on you.

"We are familiar with your reputation," says Shiki, "it's business, nothing personal, we have the same methods." He adds in response as both of you hold back from raising any suspicion.

"We'll be in touch," Mikiya says finally, a note of finality in his voice. "For now, let's resolve this situation."

"Yes," you agree. You stand, offering a polite nod. "Thank you for your time."

As you leave the lounge, your mind races. The Awakusu-kai suspects something, and their patience is limited. You've bought yourself some time, but you'll need to move quickly and carefully. The hidden connections between the Aomori faction and Awakusu-kai are a dangerous challenge, and uncovering the full extent of their betrayal will be key to navigating this treacherous game—and protecting everything you've built.
