Chapter 29: Lifeless

I woke up the next morning and quickly changed for school. I had missed yesterday, so I assumed that Tyler would be pissed at me. I ran to school and went straight to my first class. It passed too quickly. Leah didn’t even look at me anymore. I rushed to my next class, just wanting to get it over with. Tyler was waiting for me by the door. I tried to walk past him, but he grabbed my arm.

“Where were you yesterday?” He hissed in my ear. I turned towards him and looked up into his angry eyes.

“My mum is in the hospital, I had to go with her.” He narrowed his eyes, judging the accuracy of my story.

“Alcohol?” He clenched his jaw. I nodded.

“Alcohol poisoning and liver failure.” I thought I saw sympathy flash in his eyes, but they hardened. He pushed me into the classroom.

“Sucks for you.” He mumbled. The rest of the day passed like usual, and uneventfully. I dealt with his usual insults and ridicule, ignoring the sympathetic stares I received from classmates.

After our walk home I went straight to the kitchen to make Ty toast. He sat in the TV room, lounging about.

“Hurry up! I’m hungry bitch!” He called. I brought him his food, placing it down in front of him only to be slapped across the face.

“You’re blocking my view of the TV with your fat ass.” He muttered.

“I’ll be right back,” I mumbled, pulling out my phone, “I just need to check on my mum.” He grabbed my phone from me.

“Do it later. Go get me water.” I looked down at him pleadingly, but he didn’t give in. I walked out of the room and to the kitchen. I thought I heard someone talking in the other room, but I figured it was just the TV. When I came back I saw my phone pressed to Tyler’s ear.

“Nice talking to you, bye.” He said politely into the phone as he hung up.

“Who was that?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light.

“Your brother’s friend. Lewis?” He shrugged. My heart stopped.

“Louis?”

“Yeah, that was it.”

“What did he say?” He stood up.

“He was asking for you, but I said that you were busy at the hospital.”

“You told him I was at the HOSPITAL!” I yelled.

“WATCH THE FUCKING ATTITUDE!” He slapped me across the face.

“You had no right to tell him that!” I yelled, my volume rising rapidly, “Why didn’t you let me talk to him! I needed to talk to him!” He slapped me again, but I was too enraged to care. I hit him back full force. He gripped his cheek and narrowed his eyes. Then, he lunged.

I woke up a few hours later. I was lying in a pool of blood; my blood. Tyler had beaten the crap out of me. I lay there, lifeless, for a while. Every inch of my body was in excruciating pain. I didn’t know what to do. I finally mustered up enough strength to crawl over to my phone and dial the emergency number. An ambulance was on its way. I guess Tyler had left, he was no where insight. The last thing I saw before blacking out was his shoe coming at my head in full force. Thinking about it made me head hurt even more.

I heard an ambulance pull up and then I blacked out again.
