Chapter 40: Argument
Harry’s P.O.V
We walked into the hospital room together, all five of us. Liam wasn’t there and Susan was asleep, but Louis was bright and chipper.
“Ladies,” he greeted, pulling each in for a hug, “it’s good to see you again, and sorry it’s under these circumstances. Luckily, though, our girl is doing a whole lot better!” I shot Louis a warning glance. The girls did not need to know the state Susie was in when we came here. I saw Leah and Sarah look at Susan, staring. They had shocked and upset expressions written all over their faces.
“Niall, Zayn. Why don’t you take Sarah and Leah for some fresh air? This must be intense for them.” I instructed. The boys nodded and led the girls outside.
“Where’s Liam?” I turned to Louis.
“Talking to Danielle. She called earlier. Speaking of which, I haven’t spoken to Eleanor in a while. Do you mind?” He took out his phone and left the room. And then there were two. I walked over to her bed and sat on the edge. She stirred in her sleep. Her breathing started to increase and then her eyes opened.
“Good morning beautiful,” I murmured, leaning in to kiss her.
“You’re here.” She whispered, “I missed you, I was lonely.” I smiled down at her.
“Now you’ll never get rid of me.” I teased. She smiled. Her smiles were beautiful. My heart stops every time and I feel like I couldn’t breathe. I hid this though, and smiled back.
“We need to talk.” My smile faded, so did hers. She looked at me nervously, calculating.
“You’re friends are here,” I said, softening my voice. She looked at me, confused.
“Friends?”
“Leah and Sarah. Your friends, you know the ones that you’ve been ignoring lately and shutting out?” I let bitterness edge into my voice.
“Oh shit,” she breathed.
“Oh shit is right. You’re in so much trouble.” I looked down at her, trying to be soft about it, but I had to get my point across. She covered her beautiful face with her dainty hands.
“Who knows?” She asked hoarsely.
“Me and the girls. I told them to tell no one.” She peaked at me through her fingers.
“Thank you.” She whispered. I shook my head.
“What the fuck are you thinking, Suze? That I wouldn’t find out? Why are you PROTECTING HIM?” I stood up, I was nearly shouting now. Anger coursed through my veins, but I wasn’t angry at her. She looked at me with a fierce expression. She looked at me with her fighting expression.
“What am I thinking, hmm? Do you really want to know what the fuck I’m thinking?” She shouted, “I was thinking that maybe you’d be a decent human being and respect my wishes like the others did and WAIT until I’m ready to talk about it!” I inhaled sharply, we were arguing. I lowered my voice.
“By that time it’d be too late to go to court and we would take matters into our own hands.” I pointed out. She looked at me, defeated. She knew I was right and it was killing her. It hurt me to see her like that, but I had to do what was best for her. I could see her trying to think of a response, of a comeback, but in vain.
“Please don’t tell anyone else,” she whispered weakly after a while. I took her hand in mine and gazed into her olive green eyes.
“I won’t, because YOU will.” I whispered. She pulled her hand away from me and crossed her arms.
“We’ll see.” She muttered.
“No we won’t, Suze, you have to tell the other boys. They care about you, too. AND I am going to give Tyler what he deserves. I could either get him thrown in jail, which would require a court case and everyone would have to know, or I could beat him to pulp. Then last part would be a lot more effective if the lads came with me though, we would outnumber him, but I think I could handle an even fight.” I threatened her. She looked at me fiercely. She was clearly angry at me for making her do this, and I felt really bad. All I want is her happiness, but she needed closure and that requires Tyler paying for this.
“You’re supposed to be on my side.” She said quietly, I almost didn’t hear.
“What?” I was shocked, I am on her side. Did she think I was trying to hurt her? I could feel my heart drop, literally.
“You’re supposed to be on my side. You’re supposed to do what I ask in situations like this, not make it…” she didn’t finish.
“Not make it what?” I choked out.
“Harder. You’re my boyfriend; you aren’t supposed to make it harder.” I felt like I wanted to cry. I knew that I was making it harder for her, but in the long run, I was doing the right thing, right? I looked down at her, but she looked away from my gaze, arms still crossed.
“I’m sorry, but eventually you’ll understand, Suze. I need to protect you, and I didn’t. Now, I’m trying to make up for it. I am sorry if this is hard for you, but it is hard for me, too.” I stood up and kissed her forehead. I started to walk towards the door when Louis came in.
“Keep her company, I need to go clear my head,” I whispered to him. He nodded and looked between Susan and I sympathetically. I turned to leave the room when she spoke up quietly.
“I don’t need protection.” I continued to walk out of the room.
“You told us that before, and look where it got you.” I called back, without looking behind me.
