Chapter 37: Pact

Harry’s P.O.V

No sooner did I settle into the uncomfortable hospital chair, did Liam walk in. He smiled when he saw his baby sister, my girlfriend, sleeping. He went over and kissed her on the forehead.

“Hey, Li!” Louis called, “what took so long?”

“I, uh. When we got back, the lads and I had to do some cleaning. No one has been home since Susan went to the hospital. There was a bit of a bloody mess.” I looked down, I couldn’t imagine coming home to Susie’s blood all over the house. I felt bad, lying to him while he was dealing with all this.

“Sorry, mate.” Louis looked at him sympathetically.

“Niall and Zayn barely let me clean up anything.

They made me stay upstairs, only bothering when they needed to find supplies.” He sighed. I took my cue.

“I should be going, now.” I stood up and walked

over to Liam. He handed me the keys. I turned and kissed Susan on the cheek. I was about to kiss her on her soft lips, but I remembered that Liam was in the room, so I swiftly aimed my lips for her cheek. Without looking at Louis or Liam, I sauntered out of the room.

I hopped into Liam’s car, once I maneuvered myself out of the hospital. Some fans had found out about Liam’s mum, so they were hanging out in the lobby. Usually, I would be willing to hang around and mingle with fans, but I wasn’t in the mood at the moment. I have a girlfriend. The beautiful Susan Payne is MY girlfriend. She’s MINE. She’s mine to kiss, to spoil, to romanticize, to LOVE. She is mine to protect. I already failed at protecting her once, it wasn’t going to happen again.

This would be my first night away from the hospital, and I was going to use it to do some research. I WILL find out who hurt her. I pulled the car sharply into Liam’s driveway. I saw the curtain move in the TV room window and then the front door swung open, revealing Zayn and Niall. I climbed out of the car.

“HARRY!” Niall called, waving. I grinned at him; such an innocent reaction to my arrival.

“How was clean up?” I asked Zayn as I walked past him into the foyer.

“It was… Tough. I don’t clean, neither does Niall. It was even worse because it was blood. HER blood. It was nauseating.” He sighed, shaking his head.

“It was nice of you lads to step up, though.” I patted Niall on the back. The house was filled with a bleach smell.

“Yeah, well. It made us upset looking at the bloody mess; I can’t imagine what Liam was feeling.” Zayn replied. I nodded, sympathetically. I don’t know what I would have done if I had come to the house with a mess like that. It made me sick just thinking about it.

“The worst part is, the cleaning only occupied my

body; I could still think. Cleaning up Susie’s blood just made me think about what happened to her.” Niall put in. Zayn nodded in agreement.

“Doc estimated that the abuse started like five weeks ago, just after we left. I feel like we caused the abuse. Whoever hurt her did it in reaction to us. As soon as we left he or she took advantage of that. If we had stayed or never come at all…” Zayn didn’t finish his sentence. I knew what he was feeling exactly. I wish we had never left at all.

“We can’t change the past,” I looked Zayn in the eye, he knew where I was going with this.

“But we can help her as much as we can now,” he
